My Family Gave My Life to My Sister Chapter 02

My Family Gave My Life to My Sister Chapter 02

After the wedding, everyone returned home.

I floated in the corner of the living room, watching them come in and slip out of their shoes.

Mom and Dad were carrying the gifts they’d prepared for me long ago.

Grant held a brand-new copy of the family records and the box containing the diamond engagement ring I’d waited five years for.

Grant and I had been in love for five years.

We’d gone from young and inexperienced to settled and steady.

I’d imagined this day more times than I could count.

I’d stood in front of the mirror again and again, picturing that ring on my finger.

But I’d never imagined this day would come in such an absurd way.

Grant walked to my bedroom door and knocked softly twice.

“Hannah, open up.”

“Come on. Don’t be like this.”

No one answered.

“Hannah, I know you’re upset about today.”

“Come out and talk to me, okay?”

I stared at the sparkling diamond engagement ring in his hand and instinctively reached for it.

I wanted to try it on.

But my fingers passed straight through the cold ring and the back of his hand.

I couldn’t touch anything.

Grant kept knocking for a long time, patiently calling my name over and over.

But my body lay motionless on the bed.

There was no way I could answer him.

Mom came over from the living room, her expression sour.

“All we did was have her stay home and rest for half a day!”

“What’s the big deal?”

“She’s really throwing this big of a tantrum over that?”

Grant turned to Mom and forced a smile.

“It’s okay, don’t be mad.”

“Hannah’s just jealous because the whole family went out without her.”

“I’ll smooth things over with her.”

Mom slammed the family records onto the coffee table, tears spilling from the corners of her eyes.

“I knew something was off with her when she came back that day!”

“How many times do I have to explain it?”

“If Aubrey fails her System mission, she’ll die!”

“But Hannah still insists on competing with her!”

“Even now, but she just can’t stop seeking attention!”

The more Mom spoke, the more worked up she became.

Tears streamed down her cheeks.

Watching her cry, I instinctively raised my transparent hand, wanting to wipe them away.

“Mom, I wasn’t lying.”

“That day, Aubrey and I went out together.”

“We got hit by a car, and right there, I…”

“At least I won’t be a burden to you anymore.”

Dad immediately pulled Mom into his arms and comforted her.

“Hannah’s always been stubborn.”

“She’ll come around once she’s had time to think.”

Then Dad picked up my favorite crepe cake from the table and handed it to Aubrey.

“I’m taking your mom back to the bedroom to rest.”

“When Hannah opens the door, have a good talk with her.”

Aubrey took the cake and answered sweetly.

“Don’t worry, Dad.”

“I’ll talk to Hannah.”

Then she turned and smiled at Grant.

“Grant, go get the surprise ready.”

“I’ve got Hannah.”

One by one, everyone left the living room.

Soon, Aubrey was the only one standing outside my bedroom door.

The smile on her face slowly faded.

“Don’t blame me, Hannah.”

“I’ve always hated how you were better than me at everything.”

“I hated that you always got better grades.”

“Mom and Dad always liked you better.”

“And the guy I’d been crushing on for years?”

“He was crazy about you.”

“He never even noticed me.”

“All he ever saw was you!”

“That’s why I told everyone you were lying.”

“That’s why I told them you were only competing with me for attention.”

“You only have yourself to blame.”

“You were just too good at everything.”

“Too hard to ignore.”

“And you were in my way.”

So that was it.

No wonder no one had believed me.

Aubrey had set me up from the very beginning.

The next second, Aubrey suddenly lifted the crepe cake and smashed it into her own face.

She gritted her teeth and slammed her head into the wall beside her.

A dull thud echoed through the room.

Bright red blood immediately welled from her forehead.

Her knees buckled.

She collapsed onto the floor and burst into hysterical sobs.

“I’m sorry, Hannah!”

“It’s all my fault!”

“You can hit me, you can yell at me—you can do whatever you want to me!”

“Just please don’t be mad at Mom, Dad, and Grant anymore!”
