My Ex’s Mistress Became My Husband’s Affair Chapter 05

My Ex’s Mistress Became My Husband’s Affair Chapter 05

His mind went blank.

He dialed Skyler’s number, but the line was disconnected.

He tried every app, every social media account. Blocked. Everywhere.

He walked into the bedroom.

Half the closet was empty. The vanity had been wiped clean.

Grant felt a cold knot of panic tighten in his chest.

He called Sloane. She took her time answering.

“That proof about Vance being in the city… show it to me. Now.”

There was a long silence on the other end.

Sloane giggled. “Does it really matter, Grant?”

“He’s my husband, isn’t he? It’s common sense.”

“Besides, Skyler got pregn@nt right when he was in town. You two were together for three years with nothing, and suddenly she’s expecting? Who else would it be?”

Grant hung up without a word.

He drove to the hospital and forced them to re-verify the lab results.

The doctor confirmed everything.

A young nurse nearby shot him a look of pure loathing.

“I remember her. She had to undergo the procedure all by herself. It was heartbreaking.”

She rolled her eyes at him, her voice dripping with contempt.

“Where were you? Losing a child is traumatic enough, but having a husband who doesn’t give a damn? That’s

just cruel.”

Grant opened his mouth to defend himself, to say he didn’t know.

But the paper in his hand proved he was the one who had failed.

He fled the hospital and went straight to the office.

The manager practically tripped over himself to greet him.

“Mr. Grant! We’ve made sure no one bothers Ms. Sloane.”

“Give me Skyler’s employment records, Grant barked. “Everything she did before she left.”

The manager stammered, turning pale. “Sir, she’s already gone, I don’t know if-”

Grant’s eyes turned lethal. “Every project. Every performance review. Now.”

The manager began to sweat as he pulled the files.

Grant’s stomach turned as he flipped through the pages.

He recognized the designs. Skyler had shown them to him at home.

Every time she lost a bid, he assumed the competition was just better.

But here it was in black and white-Skyler’s work, signed with other people’s names.

Her performance reviews were all “failing.”

He had ignored her cries for help because he wanted to “avoid a conflict of interest.”

Grant walked out of the building and lit a cigarette, his hands trembling.

The lighter slipped from his fingers.

As he reached down to grab it, he saw a stray cat huddled in a wet cardboard box.

It was skin and bones, shivering in the cold.

He remembered last winter. Skyler had brought a freezing cat home, her eyes full of hope.

He had hated animals. He complained about fleas and made her throw it back out.

They had fought for days over that cat.

In the end, she had given in.

She had cried for a week after taking it to the shelter.
