My Ex’s Mistress Became My Husband’s Affair Chapter 06

Grant crushed his cigarette and drove to the Sterlings’.

Sloane opened the door.

She wore a silk nightgown, her belly showing a slight, unmistakable curve.

Her eyes lit up the moment she saw him.

“Grant! Perfect timing. Mom’s got a pot of chicken soup on-stay for lunch.”

Grant didn’t move.

“No thanks. Has Skyler been here?”

The smile on Sloane’s face stiffened.

“She went scorched earth on Mom and Dad years ago. Why would she come back here?”

Grant frowned.

Her place was stripped bare. She’d walked out on her job without a word..

If she wasn’t with her parents, he had no idea where else she could be.

He pushed past Sloane and walked inside.

The Sterlings were on the sofa watching TV. They greeted him with practiced politeness.

It was as if the time they’d watched Skyler get slapped and did nothing had never happened.

“Have you heard from Skyler?” Grant cut straight to the point.

The living room went dead quiet.

Mrs. Sterling let out a jagged, mocking laugh.

“Why would she call me? That girl has a temper like a forest fire. She cut ties with us three years ago.”

Grant caught it instantly.

“She cut ties with you?”

“You told me she was the one pulling schemes, that you had to kick her out to save the family. How many lies have you fed me?”

Mrs. Sterling’s face turned ashen.

“I told you the truth. Skyler is a born liar. Don’t let her play you.”

A wave of nausea hit Grant.

“Have you heard from Skyler?” Grant cut straight to the point.

Someone was lying, but the air in this house was too thick to breathe.

He turned on his heel and left.

He drove to the high school Skyler used to mention.

The Wall of Honor was still there, displaying the top ten graduates from every year.

He scanned the names until he found her.

Top of her class. Number one.

And yet, she had ended up at some unaccredited college.

Students with scores far lower than hers had gone to Ivy Leagues and top-tier state schools.

Skyler’s voice echoed in his head-the way she’d cried about Sloane’s malice and her parents’ favoritism.

“I just wanted a good school, a degree, a job that could keep me on my feet.”

“But Sloane couldn’t stand that I beat her. She hacked my portal and changed my applications.”

“My parents refused to pay for me to retake the year. I worked three summer jobs just to cover tuition for

that joke of a college.”

He hadn’t believed her then.

He’d listened to the parents. He’d listened to Sloane’s tears. He’d doubted Skyler.

Grant felt a suffocating weight in his chest.

He wasn’t just a bystander anymore. He was the executioner.

He took a sharp breath and drove straight to Vance’s office.

He didn’t wait for the secretary to announce him. He burst through the door.

Vance still had the fading purple bruises from their last fight.

“What? You here for round two?”

Grant ignored the sneer. “Have you heard from Skyler since the divorce?”

Vance froze. “Why do you care? You come here just to brag about winning her?”

“But word on the street is you’re shacking up with Sloane now. Skyler will never forgive you.”

Vance’s voice was dead certain.

“Trust me. When I cheated, she didn’t say a word. She just handed me the papers.”

That “expert” tone was exactly what Grant hated most about the man.

It was why he’d hunted Vance down eighteen times in a month.

It wasn’t just because Vance had failed her.

It was a dark, unspoken jealousy.

Grant didn’t have her first love. He didn’t have her past.

Whenever he thought about it, a feverish rage spiked in his blood.

It made him restless. It felt like ants crawling under his skin.

He’d fought Vance over and over, trying to beat that insecurity out of himself.

Then Sloane had added him on social media, acting as a “peacemaker.”

He saw through her thirst immediately, but he didn’t stop her.

Until she sent that photo of the hotel room key.

Grant’s first instinct was to screenshot it and send it to Vance.

To mock him for losing a pearl and picking up a piece of tr@sh.

But he didn’t.

He lied to Skyler, told her he had a late meeting, and went to that hotel.

He didn’t even remember what happened with Sloane.

All he felt was the rush of revenge.

Skyler wasn’t “clean.” Now, neither was he.

That was fair, he’d told himself.

But he’d miscalculated.

He’d taken a wrong turn and driven his life off a cliff.
