My Ex’s Mistress Became My Husband’s Affair Chapter 04

My Ex’s Mistress Became My Husband’s Affair Chapter 04

When I walked back into the office, my desk was already packed into cardboard boxes.

My coworkers watched me with pitying eyes.

I stayed calm, finishing my hand-over paperwork like a professional.

On my way out, I ran into a crowd surrounding Sloane.

My manager, who usually lived to breathe down my neck, was busy sucking up to her.

Sloane clicked her tongue at me, and the manager immediately shoved me toward the exit.

“Move it. This is our new Department Manager.”

“She’s an Ivy League grad. Not some tr@sh from an Unaccredited College like you.”

Sloane stepped toward me, a predatory smirk on her face.

“I have your husband to thank for this opportunity.”

I froze. She leaned in, her voice a poisonous whisper.

“Grant is the majority shareholder here. One word from him, and the job was mine.”

My nails dug into my palms until they bled.

I had worked here for three years, busting my ass just to stay in the same spot.

Every promotion I earned somehow ended up going to someone else.

I used to cry to Grant about it, and he’d just tell me that “talent always shines through eventually.”

He could have fixed it with a single phone call.

Instead, he sat back and watched me crumble under the weight of my own failures.

As I turned to leave, my eyes caught the necklace around Sloane’s neck.

It was the Custom-carved Locket I had spent weeks making, ruining my fingers to get the detail right.

I had given it to Grant as a symbol of our forever. He promised he’d never take it off.

“Grant gave it to me,” Sloane bragged, fingering the locket. “He didn’t want me having nightmares.”

I didn’t think. I reached out and ripped the locket from her neck.

Sloane let out a sharp cry of pain.

Grant appeared out of nowhere, his face contorted with rage as he shoved me back.

“Skyler! What is wrong with you?”

I stumbled back, my lower back slamming into the edge of a desk.

The pain was blinding. I collapsed onto the floor.

The way he shielded Sloane… it was a recurring nightmare.

A sharp cramp hit my abdomen, followed by a terrifying rush of warmth between my legs.

I looked down. The floor was covered in a brilliant, horrific red.

The baby was gone.

I just wanted someone of my own bl0od.

One person who would never betray me.

But even that was too much to ask for.

The doctor was listing recovery instructions, but I had tuned her out.

She sighed and told me to get some rest.

I checked my phone. Sloane had just posted an update.

She was pregn@nt.

In the comments, two men were already fighting over who the father was.

It turned into a physical brawl outside the hospital, landing both of them in the ER.

…

A month passed before Grant realized he hadn’t seen Skyler in weeks.

He drove to the house, his brow furrowed in annoyance.

The first thing he saw on the entryway table was the divorce papers.

He picked them up, his heart skipping a beat when he saw the last page.

It was a DNA paternity test.

The results were clear: Grant was the biological father.

His eyes widened, and his hands began to shake uncontrollably.

It was his baby. Skyler had been telling the truth.
