My Ex Thought I Still Loved Him, I Was Already Married Rich Chapter 19

Julian was caught completely off guard. The punch sent him stumbling backward, and blood appeared at the corner of his mouth.

Adrian still did not think it was enough. He stepped forward, grabbed Julian by the collar, his eyes dark with savage fury.

“When are you going to stop?”

“Whether she says yes to my proposal or not, she is still my wife.”

“What right does someone who hurt her have to stand here?”

Julian was bleeding, but he was still looking at me.

I reached out and held Adrian back.

“That’s enough.”

Adrian turned back to me, the anger in his eyes still not gone.

“Baby, he…”

I shook my head gently.

“Don’t let someone irrelevant ruin our little romantic moment.”

Julian’s face instantly turned deathly pale.

I reached out on my own, took the ring from Adrian’s palm, and slid it onto my ring finger.

I looked down at the diamond glittering with fire and smiled.

“The ring is beautiful.”

Then I looked up at him.

“Adrian, I want to marry you. I really, really do.”

Adrian’s breath caught.

Then he pulled me into his arms and kissed me hard.

Applause and teasing cheers erupted around us.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Julian slowly raise his hand and wipe the blood from the corner of his mouth.

After a long while, he turned and left, looking utterly lost.

But none of that mattered anymore.

To me, he was just someone irrelevant.

On the eve of the wedding, I took Adrian to the cemetery outside the city.

My father, my mother, and Grandma were all buried there.

Today, I wanted to tell them that I was getting married tomorrow.

I wanted them to know that I was very, very happy.

With one hand holding Adrian’s and the other carrying white lilies, I walked up the steps one by one.

When I reached the headstones, I froze.

Fresh flowers had been placed in front of my parents’ graves and Grandma’s grave.

Besides them was a card.

I bent down and picked it up. There was only one short sentence on it.

[I’m sorry. May you rest in peace.]

There was no signature.

But I recognized Julian’s handwriting at once.

Unfortunately, he had only begun to repent after he had lost everything.

And I no longer cared.

Adrian guessed it too. He scoffed, grabbed the flowers and the card, and threw them far away.

Then he carefully placed the flowers we had brought in front of each grave and began introducing himself to the headstones.

“Grandma, Dad, Mom, I’m Adrian Blackwood. I’m Nora’s husband.”

“I’ll take good care of her for you.”

“And from heaven, please keep an eye on Nora for me too. Don’t let some pretty boy out there steal her away.”

Our wedding was grand.

Adrian brought the very best New York had to offer and laid it all before me.

Roses covered the aisle.

The crystal chandeliers shone like a sea of stars.

And I walked toward him step by step in my wedding gown.

Suddenly, I thought of myself many years ago.

I thought of the girl who had left New York all alone and could barely even survive.

Back then, I had felt abandoned by the entire world.

I had never imagined that one day, someone would love me like this.

When it was time to read his vows, Adrian was uncharacteristically nervous.

He held my hand and spoke in a low voice.

“At first, I only wanted to find a suitable Mrs. Blackwood.”

“She needed to be beautiful, smart, and know how to behave. Ideally, she would also make my grandfather happy.”

The guests burst into laughter.

His grandfather laughed hardest of all, his white beard trembling.

I could not help laughing too.

But Adrian kept looking at me.

His gaze was so tender it made my chest ache.

“Later, I realized that love really can make a person greedy.”

“I started wanting to see you every day.”

“I wanted you to rely on me.”

“I wanted you to smile only at me.”

“I wanted to give you the best of everything in the world.”

He looked deeply at me, tears shimmering in his eyes.

“Nora, thank you for choosing to love me.”

“Meeting you was the luckiest thing that ever happened to me.”

My eyes grew hot.

Before I could speak, he had already lowered his head and kissed me.

Applause instantly filled the entire wedding venue.

At that moment, I felt truly at peace.

Only then did I understand what it felt like to be firmly chosen and loved without reservation.
