I looked into Julian’s eyes for several seconds before I realized he was serious.

I immediately snapped back, “Julian, even if you want to be my side piece, I wouldn’t want you. What part of you could ever compare to my husband?”

Even after I said that, he still refused to give up.

“What do you think is so good about him? I can learn.”

I froze for a second.

The Julian who had once been so superior, proud, and cold was now saying something like this.

Unfortunately, it was far too late.

I looked at him and said seriously, “Everything about him is good because he is Adrian. You will never compare to him.”

The last bit of light in Julian’s eyes went out completely.

But I had completely lost my patience.

“Get out. If you don’t leave, I’m calling someone.”

Instead, he reached out and pulled me into his arms with shocking force.

“Nora.”

His voice trembled.

“You weren’t like this before.”

“Before, you clearly loved me so much.”

For one moment, I was a little dazed too.

He was right.

The Nora from before really had loved Julian.

Unfortunately, that Nora had died five years ago.

I shoved him away hard.

“You said it yourself. That was before.”

“Now, I don’t love you anymore.”

Julian looked as if that sentence had destroyed him completely.

His eyes turned bloodshot.

The next second, he actually dropped to his knees in front of me.

I froze.

But he seemed not to care about his dignity at all.

He only looked up at me, his voice painfully hoarse.

“What do I have to do for you to forgive me?”

I looked down at the man kneeling on the floor.

But there was not the slightest stir in my heart.

I only found it absurd.

The man I had once tried so desperately to get close to was now kneeling in front of me, and I could not even feel sorry for him.

I spoke softly.

“Julian, do you still not understand?”

“The people who killed my parents and my grandmother weren’t only the Carlisles.”

I stared into his eyes, my teeth clenched.

“You were their accomplice.”

“You want me to forgive you?”

“Then bring my family back to life.”

“Or die.”

As soon as I said those last two words, Julian seemed to lose all his strength.

He froze where he was, his face deathly pale.

I did not look at him again. I turned, opened the door, and walked out.

Outside, everything had changed at some point.

The lights were soft.

Roses filled the hallway.

A faint floral fragrance drifted through the air.

At the end of the corridor, Adrian stood there in a white suit, tall, broad-shouldered, and impossibly elegant.

When he saw me come out, he gave a low laugh and walked toward me step by step.

Then he slowly dropped to one knee and lifted the ring in his hand.

“Nora, marry me.”

I stared at him in a daze, and suddenly I understood.

When he said he was busy today, it had not been because of work at all.

He had been secretly preparing all of this.

Not only did he want to give me a proper wedding, but he also wanted to give me the proposal I had never had.

With someone as wonderful as Adrian, what more could I possibly ask for?

My heart softened completely.

I had just opened my mouth to say yes when a broken voice rang out behind me.

“No!”

Julian rushed out.

He grabbed my hand, practically begging me.

“Nora, don’t say yes to him. Don’t marry him. Please.”

That was the final straw for Adrian.

He stood up and slammed his fist straight into Julian.
