My Ex Thought I Still Loved Him, I Was Already Married Rich Chapter 12

In the end, Sophia was arrested.

When I heard the news, I was sitting in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, staring blankly into space.

Outside, dusk lay heavy over the city, just like the evening my mother died.

Adrian came up behind me, wrapped his arms around me, and rested his chin lightly on my shoulder. In a low voice, he said, “It was Julian. He handed the police the evidence from Sophia’s drunk-driving case five years ago.”

I was silent for a long time before I asked softly, “How many years will Sophia get?”

Adrian’s arms tightened around me.

“She resisted arrest and ran into the street. A car hit her.”

“I heard her head split open. Brain matter and blood were all over the street. Call it karma.”

I stared out the window for a long time without saying anything.

Sophia was dead.

The woman who had killed my mother, driven my father to his death, and indirectly cost Grandma her life was finally dead.

My family had finally been avenged. I knew I should have felt satisfied.

But I was still so sad.

The years I had lost because of her would never come back.

My parents and my grandmother would never come back either.

Even if she died a thousand times, ten thousand times, it would never make up for the pain I had suffered.

But the dead could no longer pay for what they had done, so what else could I do?

All I could do was curse her to rot in hell forever and never know peace.

Adrian sensed how low my spirits were.

He pulled me fully into his arms and lowered his head to kiss the top of my hair.

“It’s all over now. From here on, life will be good.”

My nose stung.

I turned around, wrapped my arms around him, and buried my face against his shoulder.

“Honey, thank you.”

I knew exactly what Adrian had done.

His business empire had always been centered overseas.

But to bring down the Carlisle family, he had moved his influence step by step into the U.S. market.

He had even been willing to make an enemy of New York’s entire network of power and interests.

And he had done all of it for me.

Without him, things would never have moved this smoothly.

He was the best partner in the world.

Aside from my family, he was the person who loved me most.

And now, he was the only family I had left.

Adrian let out a low laugh and stroked my hair.

“A verbal thank-you? Isn’t that a little insincere?”

I lifted my head to look at him.

There was a lazy smile in his eyes.

But his hand had already begun misbehaving, sliding from my chest down to my waist.

Then it kept moving lower, inch by inch.

My face instantly burned red.

“Adrian.”

He lowered his head and bit my earlobe, his voice hoarse.

“Tell me. How are you planning to thank me?”

He made my whole body go weak, and I reached out to push him away.

“Stop messing around.”

Adrian gave a low laugh and said in a low, needy voice, “Baby, I’ve been holding back for so long. I want you so badly.”

He loosened his tie and kissed my neck with hungry urgency.

“The door isn’t closed!” I reminded him.

He was too busy kissing me and mumbled, “Don’t worry. They wouldn’t dare interrupt.”

His words backfired almost immediately.

The second he finished speaking, the butler’s voice came from the doorway.

“Mrs. Blackwood, a gentleman named Julian Shaw is here. He says he has something to discuss with you.”
