My Ex Thought I Still Loved Him, I Was Already Married Rich Chapter 11

He suddenly remembered Nora, her eyes red, saying to Victor Carlisle, “What? Are you going to tie me up and take nude photos of me again, just like five years ago?”

At the time, he had thought she was emotionally unstable and lashing out without thinking.

Sophia’s face turned deathly pale, and she shook her head desperately.

“It wasn’t me. I didn’t do it.”

“Julian, you have to believe me.”

But this time, Julian did not believe her unconditionally or protect her the way he always had before.

He stood there coldly, looking down at her as if he were seeing her for the first time.

She panicked even more. She clutched Julian’s sleeve tightly, crying so hard she could barely breathe.

“Julian, you can’t abandon me! For my dead brother’s sake, you have to save me!”

In the end, out of desperate love for his daughter, Victor Carlisle took the blame for everything.

The Carlisle family fell into complete chaos.

The Carlisle Group’s stock price crashed.

Business partners terminated their contracts one after another.

In just two short days, the once-powerful Carlisle family in New York was already on the verge of bankruptcy.

As soon as Sophia was released from custody, she called Julian and begged him through tears.

“Julian, please save my father. Save the Carlisles. I’m begging you.”

Julian hung up without saying a word.

He stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window and looked down at the high school students leaving for the day.

He suddenly remembered his own high school years.

He did not know whom he had offended, but he had been targeted and bullied.

A group of street punks cornered him in an alley.

Fists and insults rained down on him from every direction.

Someone even swung a steel pipe at him.

Just when he thought he might die there, his best friend, Nathan Carlisle, took the blow for him.

Blood spread across the ground, and just like that, Nathan was gone.

From that moment on, Julian swore that for the rest of his life, he would take care of Nathan’s family in his place.

That was why, all these years, no matter what trouble Sophia caused, he had always cleaned up after her.

Even five years ago, when the victim in that drunk-driving case had been his own fiancée’s mother, he had gritted his teeth and worked to shield Sophia.

But back then, the Carlisle family had clearly promised him that they only wanted to keep Sophia out of prison and would not target Nora.

So why had there been a kidnapping afterward?

The more Julian thought about it, the more agitated he became.

For a moment, he did not know what to do.

Just then, the office door was pushed open.

Maya, Nora’s best friend from college, strode in on high heels despite his assistant’s attempts to stop her.

The moment she opened her mouth, she said, “Julian, are you seriously still going to help that bitch Sophia?”

Julian said nothing.

Maya was so furious that she slammed her purse onto the desk.

“Do you have any idea what Nora went through five years ago?”

“Her mother died. Her father was critically ill. She had to face all of New York coming after her on her own.”

“She couldn’t find a job. She couldn’t rent an apartment. Even convenience stores were afraid to hire her.”

“Then she was kidnapped. They stripped her naked and took explicit photos of her.”

“If I hadn’t found her in time, those animals would have gang-raped her!”

“And even after all that, the Carlisle family still wouldn’t let her go.”

“That online smear campaign from a while ago was orchestrated by the Carlisles too. It indirectly killed her grandmother.”

The more Maya spoke, the angrier she became, until her eyes turned red.

“Julian, do you even have a conscience?”

“You and Nora were each other’s first love, no matter how it ended. Are you really going to help her enemies get away with this?”

Julian’s breath caught.

He had not known Nora had gone through any of that.

Back then, he had even blamed her for being too stubborn and too impulsive.

He had blamed her for calling off the engagement and breaking up with him without asking for the whole truth.

His heart ached violently for Nora.

But Nathan’s blood-covered face kept flashing before his eyes.

After a long time, Julian said quietly, “I owe the Carlisle family. I can’t just turn my back on them.”

Maya laughed in anger.

“You owe them? You mean that bullying incident in high school?”

Julian froze.

Maya looked at him coldly.

“What a coincidence. I went to the same high school as you.”

“If I remember correctly, the punks who cornered you back then were hired by Sophia.”

Julian’s face turned pale. “What did you say?”

Maya scoffed.

“Sophia had a crush on you in high school.”

“But you kept ignoring her.”

“She got angry and hired people to teach you a lesson.”

“She just never expected it to get her own brother killed.”

“If you don’t believe me, go verify it yourself.”

“Those punks are still in prison. Ask them, and you’ll know.”

For a long time, Julian could not snap out of it. His ears buzzed.

Maya stared at his pale face.

“So now, are you still going to keep covering for your precious Sophia?”
