My Comatose Wife Woke Up Pregnant Chapter 09 A Marriage of Convenience

on learned what Harper wanted.

She had no desire to marry either, but her family hounded her about it every day. She had reached her limit.

Her solution was a marriage of convenience–with me.

She looked at my bandages and presented her case without a trace of shame.

“You’re a wreck right now. No sensible woman in Crestmont is going to want you, so you might as well help

me.

“And I’m pretty. You’re getting a decent deal.”

I gave a helpless laugh.

“My life is already miserable. Must you make fun of me too?

“The answer is no. I won’t repeat the same mistake.”

The last thing I needed was for my pretend wife to bring home another man one day, declare that she had found true love, and throw me aside.

I had already lived through that nightmare with Vivian.

Harper reached over and patted my head.

“I know. You’ve suffered terribly. But this really is a good opportunity.

“I promise I won’t abandon you the way Vivian did. If we enter a fake marriage, we can keep it fake for the rest of our lives. Fair?

“I’ll sign a prenuptial agreement. If I betray you, you get half of the Bellamy family fortune.

“Of course, you aren’t allowed to fool around either. If I catch you with someone else, you’ll regret it.”

That was enough.

“Then why would I marry you at all? None of this is necessary.”

Besides, I didn’t want to deceive Grandpa.

Harper promptly revealed the strongest card in her hand/

“Because your grandfather wants us together. Ever since he learned Vivian betrayed you, he has visited my grandfather several times. He says I’m the only woman he’ll accept as his granddaughter–in–law.”

For the first time, I seriously considered her proposal.

I had spent enough years acting on my own desires. It was time to do something for Grandpa.

Harper also seemed kind beneath her sharp tongue. A practical marriage with her might not be such a terrible future.

St when Grandpa came to see me, I asked for his opinion.

I chose my words carefully.

“Would you accept it if Harper and I married first and tried to fall in love later?”

Grandpa stared for several seconds, then broke into a delighted grin.

“You already met Harper? If both of you agree, I don’t care how you do it!”

In the end, I accepted Harper’s proposition.

She grabbed my hand, beaming.

“That’s better. Take good care of me from now on, Mr. Prescott.”

I couldn’t help laughing.

Several things happened over the following weeks.

Mason was convicted and sentenced to thirty years in prison.

The people who had kidnapped and tortured me were also arrested and sentenced.

A few days later, I was discharged from the hospital.

Grandpa couldn’t come, so Harper handled the paperwork and left with me.

I never expected to find Vivian waiting outside.

After two weeks apart, she looked exhausted, as if she had aged more than a decade.

The moment she saw me, she rushed forward.

“Julian! Thank God. I finally found you!

“The guards at the Prescott estate wouldn’t let me in. I had to ask everywhere before someone told me you were here.

“The hospital staff refused to tell me your room number, so I waited outside.

“I knew you would come out eventually!”
