My Comatose Wife Woke Up Pregnant Chapter 02

My Comatose Wife Woke Up Pregnant Chapter 02 She Married My Best Friend
Grandpa exploded.
“What kind of nonsense is this? So she’s in a coma—who cares? The Prescott family can handle it. Even if I have to bring in the best medical team in the world, I’ll make damn sure she wakes up!”
Bitterness filled my mouth as I told him everything that had happened.
After cursing for a solid minute, he barked an order.
“Then get back here immediately! Stopping you two from getting a marriage license three years ago was the smartest thing I ever did. Harper Bellamy just came home, so the two of you could—”
I muttered a vague response and ended the call before the humiliation swallowed me whole.
I was the sole heir to the Prescott family of Crestmont.
More than twenty years earlier, my parents had been kidnapped and murdered by our family’s enemies.
To keep me safe, Grandpa sent me to Riverton, where his most trusted army friend raised me.
He had wanted me to return and assume my place in the family three years ago.
But he refused to accept Vivian and ordered me to cut ties with her.
I had been madly in love. Instead of leaving her, I defied him and gave her a lavish wedding.
The marriage license was where everything stalled.
The clerk said there was a restriction attached to my identity and refused to issue it.
I knew Grandpa was behind this.
Before I could get the restriction lifted, Vivian staged her accident and became my comatose wife.
That morning, Grandpa had called me of his own accord.
He had finally agreed to welcome Vivian into the family and promised to use every resource at his disposal to cure her.
He even arranged for the family jet to bring us home in two days.
Then Vivian handed me this spectacular “surprise.”
Now I had other plans.
I hired two private investigators and told them to dig into Mason.
Then I went to Riverton University.
Before I left the city, I would prove Mason had lied. His technology had never been stolen.
On my way home from campus, a post from Vivian appeared in my feed.
[Three years later, the marriage certificate is finally mine. Thank you for staying with me.]
The photo showed a marriage certificate, but the groom’s name and face were blurred.
Our mutual friends flooded the comments.
[Vivian, you’re awake! Did you and Julian finally make it official? Congratulations!]
[Your husband is obviously Julian. Why hide him? No other man would care for you faithfully for three years.]
Vivian replied with nothing but a dancing emoji.
I knew the groom wasn’t me.
I also knew I no longer cared.
I left one comment.
[May you two be stuck with each other forever.]
Seconds later, Vivian deleted it.
I gave a cold laugh and put my phone away.
When I reached the house, Vivian and Mason were already on the couch. Their marriage certificate lay on the table in a burgundy folder.
One of her legs was draped across his lap.
The sight burned.
Vivian frowned when she saw me.
“Who told you to leave that comment under my post? I deleted it just in time. Do you have any idea what our friends would have thought?”
Amusement flickered in Mason’s eyes as he offered a leisurely explanation.
“Julian, don’t get angry. Vivian and I only got legally married for the baby’s sake. It would save us a lot of legal complications once the baby was born.”
A humorless laugh escaped me.
She had carried on an affair and gotten pregnant. Now she had married her lover for his child. Their shamelessness almost impressed me.
“Why are you explaining yourself?” Vivian clung to Mason’s arm. “I tried to marry Julian three years ago, and he couldn’t even get us a license. I still haven’t settled that with him.”
I looked straight at her.
“Now that you’re legally married to Mason, there is nothing between us. We’re done.
“This is my house—I paid for it. Pack your things and get out today.”
The color drained from Vivian’s face.
She crossed the room and slapped me.
“Julian, after everything we’ve shared, you’re abandoning me over one little mistake?”
Mason hurried to join in.
“Exactly. Once the baby’s paperwork is settled, Vivian and I can divorce. Then you two can get your own license.
“You had the wedding three years ago. You’re the couple who truly belongs together. Don’t do something stupid now.”
Listening to them would have made me the biggest fool alive.
I regarded the cheating pair with perfect calm.
“I’m informing you of my decision. I’m not asking for permission.
“That’s all.”
I refused to argue any further and headed for the study.
Vivian entered a short while later.
Her impatience had vanished. She lowered her head and tried to nestle against my chest.
“Honey, please don’t be angry. Marrying Mason was only for the baby. You’re still the partner I chose.”
Whenever we fought in the past, she had soothed me this way.
But now, all I felt toward her was distance and disgust.
I shoved her away.
“Don’t touch me. You disgust me.”
Her face went white.
She pointed at me, losing her composure.
“And whose fault is that? Yours! If you hadn’t stolen Mason’s technology, I never would have gotten involved with him!”
I answered with a quiet question.
“Vivian, what will you do if you learn I never stole anything?
“What if Mason has been lying to you all along?”
She bit her lip before forcing out a reply.
“You’re still refusing to admit it. Julian, you’re beyond saving.”
