My Boyfriend’s Weekly Day Off Was For My Best Friend Chapter 10

Three months later, the court issued its final judgment.

Lorelei was sentenced to multiple years in prison for aggravated assault and embezzlement, combined into one sentence.

Gavin received a prison term for misappropriation of funds, securities and wire fraud.

Seated in the visiting room behind thick bulletproof glass, I perched on the bolted-down metal stool for my final visit with Gavin.

His head was shaved, wearing gray prison scrubs. His groin injury left him confined to a wheelchair.

The once proud, arrogant Mr. Judd now had sunken cheeks and a gaunt, haggard frame.

He picked up the phone receiver with shaking hands. Huge tears rolled down his clouded eyes.

He pressed his face against the glass, his voice hoarse like a rusted saw.

“Nadine… If I hadn’t been greedy, if I’d never insisted on taking that damned Saturday off… Would we be married now? Living happily?”

Even now, he clung to the pretty lie they’d built.

I watched his face twisted with remorse, a faint, relieved smile tugging at my lips.

I lifted the receiver, my tone calm. “Gavin, if there had been no Saturday, it would’ve been a Sunday, or a Monday.”

“The baseness and greed rooted in your soul will always fester, no matter how well you try to hide them.”

“I’m thankful for that Saturday.” I met his hollow, desperate eyes and smiled softly. “It let me see the truth about you in time.”

With that, I hung up the receiver before he could wail again.

Stepping out through the prison’s heavy, dim iron gates, warm sunlight washed over me at last. A gentle breeze brushed my face, the sun dazzlingly bright.

Beneath a tall camphor tree sat a sleek, understated black Maybach.

Cedric leaned quietly against the car door, wearing a crisp, tailored white shirt, waiting for me.

When he saw me emerge, the frost in his icy eyes melted, replaced by warm, tender affection.

He strode toward me, pulling a black velvet box from behind his back like a magic trick.

The lid popped open. Inside rested a breathtaking, top-tier cushion-cut pink diamond, shimmering mesmerizingly under the sunlight.

Cedric looked straight into my eyes, sincere and unguarded, a playful, loving smile on his lips.

“Ms. Kingsley, I’ve heard you value your independence. I know how much you value your independence. Would letting me in feel like giving that up?”

Looking at his unreserved honesty and respect, my heart softened, my eyes stinging slightly.

Real love didn’t demand I shrink my world; it offered a foundation strong enough to hold it.

Without hesitation, I smiled, stepping forward and running toward him into his embrace beneath the bright sun.

“Mr. Parker, my personal space is limited.”

I lifted my hand, letting him slide that brilliant pink diamond onto my ring finger.

“But it’s just big enough… for you.”
