When my husband Declan Ashford was away on a business trip, he asked what I wanted.

I told him I wanted a bag.

When Declan came home, all he gave me was a keychain.

“You really think you’d leave me over this?”

My expression didn’t change.

I only asked, “Is the bag really gone?”

Declan frowned but stuck to his story.

“It was limited edition. Those sell out all the time. Can’t I just get you something else?”

I stayed silent for two seconds before holding my phone up in front of him.

His new secretary had posted a selfie on Instagram with the bag hanging off her arm.

“Come on. Don’t be mad. It’s just a bag.”

“Next time, I’ll get you something even more expensive. Hmm?”

As he spoke, he pulled me back into his arms. His chin rested on top of my head.

“A bag for my secretary is a work perk. It keeps her motivated.”

“You’re my wife. You don’t need to compete with a secretary for a bag.”

I pushed Declan away again.

My voice stayed firm.

“Divorce.”

All the warmth drained from Declan’s face.

“Colette, it’s just a bag. Do you really have to keep going on about it?”

“I just got back from an overseas business trip. I’m exhausted.”

“You haven’t even asked how my trip was. All you care about is that damn bag.”

He went straight upstairs after that.

“I’m going to bed. Don’t bother me.”

I didn’t stop him.

Instead, I picked up my phone again.

Sure enough, the post was gone less than three minutes later.

The secretary Piper Keene posted something new.
