My Boyfriend Played Broke to Fool Me, So I Vanished Chapter 06

Evan threw the documents in his hand onto the floor.

This was Riverside. The Chase family’s territory.

How could a person possibly disappear without a trace?

There was only one possibility.

Whoever helped her escape had power greater than his.

At the thought of this possibility, he couldn’t help letting out a scoff.

Impossible.

Nora was no longer the Quinn family heiress now.

She also had a criminal record.

Her face had been slashed.

Just looking at her, she was trouble.

Even her parents had abandoned her.

Who else could help her?

He stared at his phone in silence, his finger drifting unconsciously toward Nora’s name.

He tried dialing Nora’s number.

But this phone number had already been deactivated at lightning speed.

That fast…

Evan finally realized this incident was not as simple as he’d thought.

He grabbed his suit jacket and drove to yesterday’s barbecue stall.

After a day of cleanup, the barbecue shop had regained some life.

The owner recognized him.

That man who’d been entangled with Nora yesterday.

Seeing him approach, the owner was terrified he was here to cause trouble again.

He hurried over, arms outstretched to block him.

“Boss, Boss, that girl has already been chased away by me. My shop shouldn’t have hired her. Please, have mercy—we can’t withstand this kind of trouble.”

Evan frowned. “Chased away?”

He caught something off in the owner’s words. His tone grew urgent. “Last night—what happened?”

“A bunch of people came and wrecked the shop. Wasn’t it you who sent them?”

The owner looked at Evan’s frozen expression and seemed to conclude in his heart that this matter had nothing to do with him.

Evan clenched his jaw.

Absolutely, absolutely—it was Luna.

Yesterday, he’d belittled Nora in front of Luna, pretended he had nothing to do with Nora.

But Luna had still detected the clues.

She had always been pathologically jealous.

She’d actually sent a gang to wreck the shop.

So where had Nora gone?

Evan stared at the owner and said, enunciating each word clearly, “Tell me everything that happened last night. Every detail.”

Compelled by the oppressive authority in Evan’s words, the owner honestly recounted everything that had happened the night before, detail by detail.

“Last night, a group came. Then Nora even went and begged them to stop smashing things. They flipped her onto a table. Glass stabbed into her face. When that group saw what happened, they left. After that… she left too.”

Evan listened, his heart pounding with terror. He closed his eyes and steadied himself for a moment. His voice was ice-cold.

“Her face was stabbed with glass, and you still let her leave?”

On the broken table sitting at the very front, he could even still see the traces of Nora’s blood that hadn’t been cleaned away.

The owner, hearing Evan’s interrogation, felt somewhat baffled for a moment.

“She’s the one who wrecked my little shop like this. What’s wrong with me making her leave? Before she left, she even tried to ask me for money—what a joke. If you’re so worried about her, why didn’t you come last night?”

Listening to the owner’s words, Evan grabbed him by the collar and lifted him up.

“You didn’t even give her money?”

“Me, give her money? These tables, yesterday’s customers—do you have any idea how much money she cost me? I was generous not to demand compensation from her.”

No money.

How was Nora supposed to treat her wound?

She had nowhere to go, and she was injured.

Evan couldn’t bear to think further. “If something happens to her, you’re a murderer!”

The owner, provoked by Evan’s successive accusations, was getting somewhat annoyed too.

Even though he couldn’t afford to offend him, he still couldn’t help but snap back.

“Well then, Boss, since you care about her so much, how about you pay for all the tables she broke? They came during our busiest hour—we didn’t even collect the bill. That money should be compensated too, right?”

Evan glared at him. “In your dreams.”

The owner had caused Nora to not even have money to see a doctor, and now he actually had the nerve to demand money from him.

He’d barely walked a few steps when he stopped.

He turned and walked back. “How much?”

The owner didn’t quite grasp Evan’s sudden reversal. “What?”

“I said, calculate it. How much were the total losses last night? I’ll pay.”

“The only condition is—if you ever get news of Nora in the future, contact me immediately.”

He placed his business card on the table.

Nora had vanished.

Even if it was like searching for a needle in the vast ocean, he needed to find as many people as possible to join the search.
