My Birth Parents and Husband Chose the Adopted Daughter, So I Vanished Chapter 06

Everyone in New York’s underworld believed Adrian Moretti valued his wife above everything else.

At least, that was how it looked from the outside.

Evelyn had stayed by his side through the gunshot that left him in a coma and through the most

dangerous years of his fight for succession.

He had gone from an overlooked heir from a lesser branch of the Family to the Don himself.

Later, he held a wedding at the Plaza Hotel that became the talk of the entire underworld.

For five years, Adrian never allowed anyone to publicly disrespect “Mrs Moretti“.

But he also never brought her to the Family’s truly important gatherings.

Outsiders assumed he was protecting her.

Only a handful of people knew the truth.

Deep down, Adrian had always believed Evelyn’s background fell short of what he imagined a Don’s

wife should be.

Because Serena cried until her eyes were red, he could arrange a fake kidnapping.

Because Serena complained that the biological daughter had stolen her place, he could falsify paternity results and make it appear that his own child had been fathered by Evelyn’s kidnapper.

Because Serena looked more like “a true daughter of the Family“, he could hand Evelyn’s

achievements over to her again and again.

Suddenly, Adrian remembered the smile on Evelyn’s face back at the warehouse when he chose

Serena.

It had been too calm, nothing like the look of someone acting out of spite and far more like the

look of someone who had finally decided to leave.

The unease he’d been forcing down surged back into his chest.

Just then, a courier in a dark suit was escorted into the estate by the guards.

“Which one of you is Mr Adrian Moretti? I’ve got an urgent document for him. It’s from Evelyn

Moretti.”

Adrian’s pupils contracted.

He had just reached for the envelope when Serena suddenly snatched it away.

“First a death notice, now a list of her belongings. It’s obviously another one of her tricks. Adrian,

stop playing along.”

She grabbed the envelope and moved to throw it into the bin.

Adrian’s expression changed instantly.

“What are you scared of?”

Serena froze.

“I’m not scared.”

“Give it here.”

“No!”

Her voice suddenly rose.

“She’s trying to turn us against each other! She hates me. She knows I’m having your baby, so she’s

done this on purpose…”

Adrian stared at her coldly.

“I won’t ask again, Serena. Hand it over.”

Serena instinctively stepped backwards.

Her heel caught on the edge of the porch, and she lost her balance.

The envelope hit the ground.

Its contents spilled everywhere.

A thick stack of photographs fanned out across the floor.

Everyone around them fell silent.

One of the capos bent down and picked up the photo closest to him.

His expression changed instantly.

In the picture, Serena was sitting on the edge of Adrian’s desk.

Adrian stood between her legs.

There was no way to pass that kind of closeness off as sibling affection.

In another photo, they were kissing outside a suite at the Plaza Hotel.

Another showed them in a car park.

Another had been taken in a private corridor inside the Moretti estate.

Low murmurs immediately spread through the crowd.

“Didn’t he always say Serena was like a sister to him?”

“Evelyn’s the one he’s married to.”

“No wonder that anonymous post sounded so real.

Serena’s face went deathly white.

She lunged forwards to grab the photos.

“Don’t look at them! They’re fake, all of them!”

No one paid any attention to her.

One of the Family lawyers picked up a black USB drive from beneath the photographs.

“There’s a video as well.”

Serena began trembling uncontrollably.
