My Birth Parents and Husband Chose the Adopted Daughter, So I Vanished Chapter 07

The USB drive was plugged into the large screen in the living room.

The screen that had originally been prepared to display photos for Evelyn’s memorial suddenly

began playing hidden–camera footage.

The first clip showed Adrian and Serena.

Both the picture and the audio were crystal clear, making every possible excuse sound ridiculous.

Near the end of the video, Richard and Margaret could even be seen standing outside the door, deliberately covering for them.

My father’s voice came through the speakers.

“Evelyn only got pregnant once in five years, and her health is terrible. Luckily, Serena’s willing to

give the Moretti Family a child. Once the baby’s born, the alliance between the Carters and the

Morettis will be secure.”

My mother gave a quiet laugh.

“Evelyn grew up outside the Family. She’s unreliable and she doesn’t know how a Don’s wife is

supposed to carry herself. Serena’s the one we raised for that role.”

Then another series of videos began playing automatically.

They showed how Serena defended her “sister” in public, only to turn around and deliberately humiliate Evelyn for her background.

She repeatedly sent Evelyn the hidden footage from the fake kidnapping.

At the charity gala, she deliberately reminded Evelyn in front of all those high–society women, “You’ve never been to one of these before, have you? Don’t worry, I’ll show you what to do.”

After having Bruno killed, she tricked Evelyn into eating the stew made from his meat.

But the most damning recording came from the night Evelyn was abducted and punished.

A man’s voice said, “Mr and Mrs Carter, it’s done. Just as you asked.”

Margaret replied, “Good. I’ll explain it to Adrian.”

The final video was from the warehouse at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Serena had her foot planted on the wounds across Evelyn’s chest.

Each word cold and deliberate, she told her, “They all look down on you. You’ll never be one of us.

The bomb’s real. The moment I get out, you’re dead.”

The video ended.

No one in the entire estate said a word.

There wasn’t a trace of colour left in Serena’s face.

She lunged towards the screen, trying to shut it off, but the bodyguards stopped her.

“It’s all fake! Every last bit of it!”

She dropped to her knees in front of Adrian.

“She hates me! She’s doing this because you stopped choosing her. This is revenge. She’s trying to

destroy us!”

Before she could finish, Adrian clamped a hand around her throat.

His eyes were terrifyingly red.

“Did you take Evelyn to the warehouse?”

Serena shook her head frantically.

“No…”

“Was the bomb real?”

“Adrian…”

“I asked you a question. Was the bomb real?”

His voice suddenly thundered through the room.

Everyone in the hall went silent.

Serena finally broke.

“It was! It was real! I only meant to scare her! I thought you’d choose me! I just wanted her out of

New York for good!”

Adrian’s fingers began to tremble.

“And Evelyn? Is she dead?”

Serena looked into his eyes.

This time, she didn’t dare lie.

“She… she’s probably dead.”

Silence fell over the room.

Only two things kept repeating in Adrian’s mind.

The bomb was real.

Evelyn was dead.

He suddenly shoved Serena away and sprinted towards the garage.

“My Evelyn isn’t dead. She promised she’d never leave me.”

On the drive from Manhattan to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, he barely slowed down.

The fire department had already brought the blaze under control.

But the perimeter of the warehouse was still radiating heat.

The moment Adrian got out of the car, he headed straight inside.

A firefighter immediately blocked him.

“Sir, there’s still a risk of another explosion!”

Adrian didn’t respond at all.

He kept walking, step by step, towards the charred entrance.

Then, without warning, another explosion erupted from deep inside the warehouse.

The shockwave sent the outer barriers flying.

A blast of scorching air hurled Adrian backwards.

Before he lost consciousness, the last thing he thought of was the way Evelyn had looked at him

on the rooftop.

By then, she had already stopped loving him.

He had only been too blind to see it until now.
