My Army Captain Husband Posed as Another Woman’s Husband—I Jailed Him Chapter 04

But Aiden had already walked over to the bed and grabbed Enzo, who was fast asleep.

“Ah… Dad, what are you doing! Mom, I want Mom…”

Hearing Enzo cry out tore my heart apart.

I tried with everything I had to take Enzo back, but my weak body had no strength. My steps faltered, and I collapsed miserably to the floor.

Aiden covered Enzo’s mouth and looked down at me. “Naomi, I didn’t want to push you. Sign the papers, and I’ll give Enzo back to you. You can keep him for a few more years.”

A bone-deep cold and nausea washed over me. I coughed violently, a thick, metallic taste flooding my nose.

Aiden turned to leave.

Enzo’s cries grew weaker.

I grabbed Aiden’s pant leg and begged, begging in a humble, trembling voice. “I’ll sign. Please. Just give Enzo back to me.”

With stiff, shaking fingers, I scrawled my signature on the paper.

Aiden frowned as he took in my ashen face and empty, lifeless eyes and murmured in a placating tone, “This is the last time. Bear with it a little longer. I’ll make a special exception for you and send you more money to help you recover your health.”

Too anxious to check on Melody, he failed to notice me collapsing into unconsciousness from violent coughing right behind him.

Blood kept pouring from my nose, covering my face, soaking through my shirt again and again.

When I woke up, I was in the hospital.

The doctor grumbled while writing out my prescription. “How could you leave it untreated for so long! Do you have any idea your condition’s already terminal!”

I gave a bitter smile. “Just give me some painkillers.”

Dragging my exhausted, weak body, I went downstairs to pay the fee.

The staff member behind the window looked up at me. “Going through insurance? These are all imported drugs. If you pay out of pocket, it’s expensive.”

My eyes burned.

I’d worked at a state-owned unit for seven years. But after Melody reported me, I lost my steady job. And my labor insurance benefits along with it.

“I’ll pay myself. Give me as many as this money can cover.”

A few crumpled bills were clutched in my hand.

This was all my savings from the past few years, meant to buy the medicine that could keep me alive.

But before I could hand them over, a figure rushed up and snatched them out of my hand. “Where did you get this money? Did you steal it from my husband?”

Melody was wearing the red coat Aiden had bought her with two months of his salary—bright and flashy.

“What a small world. I’m here for my pregnancy check-up, and I run straight into you. Are you lingering here on purpose, waiting to seduce my husband again?”

Behind her stood Aiden’s tall, strong figure.

They were standing close. His hand was on her shoulder.

He noticed me looking. His body went stiff. His gaze flickered. But he didn’t deny that he was there for her prenatal checkup.

I curled my lip in unconcern and pried Melody’s fingers apart sharply. “Don’t you dare spew lies! Give my money back!”

Melody winced in pain. “Aiden, look at this crazy bitch…”

Then she tore the bills to shreds.

She leaned down and whispered in my ear. “So what if he’s your husband? He loves me now, and you’re nothing but an unrecognized homewrecker.”

So she was never sick! Every spell was an act!

The blood rushed to my head. I stepped forward and slapped her across the face, over and over, until my own palm went numb.

Melody fell to the ground dramatically, clutching her belly and writhing in pain. “The baby, Aiden… our baby! She’s trying to ruin my marriage, and now she wants to kill my baby.”

The hospital security guards rushed in and slammed me face-down onto the floor.

Rage surged through my chest. Blood started dripping from my nose again, staining the white tiles red.

Aiden’s heart seemed to miss a beat. “Naomi, you…”

“Honey, she just has a cold, a little nosebleed. But our baby… what if something’s wrong with him?” Melody wailed pitifully.

Aiden’s hand, which had been reaching out, stopped mid-air. He pulled it back. “Naomi, you’ve crossed the line. Apologize to Melody right now.”

“In your dreams.” I ground out the words through my teeth. I struggled with everything I had, trying to get up and go after both of them.
