My Alpha Mate Shoved Me Into The Trunk For The Omega’s Dog Chapter 07

The mist over the pack territory hadn’t fully lifted by the next morning.

Hemlock showed up at the council hall entrance waiting for me.

He still wore the same clothes from the night before.

Weariness hung heavy on his frame, the Alpha who ruled this valley looking less like a powerful leader and more like a cast-aside failure clinging to the edge.

He stumbled over his words to explain. “My phone died all of a sudden last night, and I couldn’t find you when I got back…”

Guilt clouded every inch of his gaze, and I almost felt bad calling his bluff.

I spoke softly. “You’re saying you came back to look for me last night?”

Hemlock nodded frantically. “I waited for you here for ages!”

I wasted no extra words and pulled out my phone, opening our message thread.

“Were you waiting for me in Mia’s bed?”

The second Hemlock laid eyes on the photo, all color drained from his face.

His Adam’s apple bobbed sharply.

“It wasn’t like that…”

He rushed to make excuses.

“I was worn out after finding Buddy last night, I only meant to rest for a minute and accidentally passed out…”

“Nothing happened between Mia and me, I swear—”

I cut him off mid-sentence. “Then how does Mia know your phone passcode?”

Hemlock froze completely, no reply slipping past his lips.

His silence said everything there was to know.

Earlier that year, Hemlock had suddenly changed his phone lock code.

I’d respected his need for personal privacy back then.

I never imagined that same “privacy” would lock me out entirely from his life.

My she-wolf let out a low, quiet rumble deep in my chest.

It wasn’t pain.

Just utter, crushing disappointment.

I’d thought our talk that morning would make Hemlock give up.

Yet when I finished work, there he stood again at the hall doors clutching a bouquet of roses.

Fellow pack members shot envious glances our way, murmuring about how romantic and thoughtful their Alpha was as a mate.

I could only find it ridiculous.

Six years together, and Hemlock had never once brought me flowers.

It wasn’t that he didn’t understand romance.

He’d simply never bothered to save any of it for me.

Hemlock pressed the bouquet into my hands in a desperate bid to win me over.

“Avril, I’m so sorry. Don’t stay mad at me, come back to the pack house with me.”

Pack members unaware of the full story cheered us on from the sidelines.

I figured I did need to head back there anyway.

I’d realized while packing my luggage that I’d left my driver’s license at the house.

When I pushed open the pack house front door, a rich smell of cooked food washed over me.

Mia stepped out of the kitchen wearing an apron, moving around the space like she owned the place.

She hurried over, plastering a remorseful look across her face.

“Welcome home, Avril. I cooked an elaborate feast just to apologize to you today. Please don’t stay upset with the Alpha over me, okay?”

The dining table was piled high with every kind of seafood—shrimp, crabs, shellfish filling every platter.

It looked like an elaborately staged peace offering.

But Hemlock had clearly forgotten I was deathly allergic to seafood.

He jumped in quickly beside her. “Mia only messaged you last night because she hated making you wait alone. She’s gentle and harmless, no ill intentions at all.”

I had no patience for their act and walked straight to the bedroom. I dug my license out of the nightstand and turned to leave at once.

Hemlock stepped in my path to block me.

“Mia slaved away cooking this whole afternoon. Show her basic respect and decency.”

Mia stood beside him, fresh tears welling in her eyes.

I swept a cold glance over the seafood spread and said flatly, “I’m allergic to seafood. I can’t eat any of it.”

Hemlock smacked his forehead, only remembering far too late. “I forgot to warn Mia, this is all my fault.”

Yet a sticky note he’d written himself that read Avril’s Seafood Allergy still stuck to the fridge door, plain to see.

A flash of triumph flickered across Mia’s face before she smoothed her features back into innocent sorrow.

“I’m so sorry, Avril. I had no idea you couldn’t eat seafood, it’s all my mistake.”

She turned toward Hemlock. “Hemlock, run down to the restaurant nearby and grab some other dishes. Avril must be starving.”

Hemlock agreed right away. “Alright. A new French spot opened up

nearby last week, I’ll pick up your favorites.”

Once Hemlock left to run the errand, Mia dropped her performance entirely.
