She suddenly lowered her voice, laced with malicious amusement.

“You don’t know this, do you that you? That time you lost the baby, it was because I drank an abortion pill.”

My eyes snapped open.

“You were in so much pain, rolling around, bleeding everywhere. I loved watching it.”

Her shoulders shook with laughter.

“Adrian knows too. But he never blamed me.”

My blood went cold all over.

No wonder his eyes had been red that day too, and yet he’d ordered no one to investigate look into it further.

“This child wasn’t meant to be with us. No point holding onto it.”

“We’ll have more kids. I promise.”

The flowers delivered every day back then, the sudden trips, the gifts for no reason – all of at all, it had all

just been to distract me.

But that baby had been something I wanted to leave behind for him, in case the Moon Goddess took me away and he missed me.

I bit down hard enough to crack a tooth.

“An innocent child, and it wasn’t even born yet…”

She scoffed.

“Blame the little runt for picking the wrong womb, then!”

Rage surged up. I forced myself upright and slapped her across the face with everything I had.

She didn’t hit back.

She yanked the sheet off the bed and set it on fire.

Then dumped gasoline she’d hidden behind the cabinet all over the floor.

Flames shot up instantly.

She screamed.

A shrill alarm blared, and panicked footsteps closed in from outside the door.

She smirked at me.

“Let’s see who he saves first.”

Watching her grinning face, I sank my teeth into her neck.

The taste of rust spread through my mouth.

“What are you doing?!”

Adrian’s furious shout exploded at the door.

“Adrian, she hit me, she bit me, she’s trying to burn me alive, help me!”

Serena burst into tears instantly, cowering toward him.

Almost in the same instant, I got kicked square in the chest, sent flying.

Adrian scooped Serena up, glaring at me sprawled on the floor, his face full of fury.

“Trying to die?!”

I opened my mouth, mouth and said nothing.

There was no point arguing.

Because in that exact moment.

The hundredth silver line on my back finally finished forming, complete.

Cold white moonlight spilled in through the window, like an invisible hand pressing gently down over my

I heard the Moon Goddess’s whisper.

Adrian met my icy, indifferent gaze, and his body went rigid.

“We’ll deal with this later.”

“Stay here, don’t move. I’ll be right back to save you.”

He carried Serena off in a hurry.

My consciousness started slipping away.

I watched his figure sway in the firelight, and suddenly, I smiled.

Adrian, we don’t have a laterlater anymore.

I thought the Moon Goddess would take me right away.

But my soul just floated there, the wrapped in silver moonlight wrapping around me without pulling that

never pulled me away.

I felt a little helpless.

So the Goddess wanted me to watch this whole reckoning play out.

I looked down at my own charred body, then looked away again after a moment.

Ugly.

Like a twisted, stiff piece of burnt wood.

Suddenly, a few men in black burst in.

They stuffed me into a bag with practiced efficiency and carried me off.

“What are you doing?!”

I shouted.

Then realized – they couldn’t hear meme at all.

I followed them anyway.

Those men dumped me in a barren ravine.

Then made a call.

“Miss Serena, it’s done.”

Something came back from the other end. The call ended.
