My Alpha Let Our Pup Die for Her Familiar Chapter 05

My Alpha Let Our Pup Die for Her Familiar Chapter 05

“You don’t deserve to be a father. Eira said the person she hated most was you.”

It was Eira’s attending physician.

Caius’s face twisted in disbelief. “Hate me? Impossible. Eira said she admired me more than

anyone.” “Looks like Ravenna bought you off too.”

He didn’t believe me. He didn’t believe the doctor.

His eyes went red as he roared and hung up. He grabbed my arm and started dragging me toward

the door, toward the hospital.

He was so sure that with me doting on Eira, she could never die.

He was dead set on exposing my “lies” in front of everyone.

I let him pull me. I didn’t say a word.

Eventually, the reporters couldn’t take it anymore.

They swarmed Caius and pried him off me.

“Alpha Caius, Luna Ravenna is the pup’s mother-how could she possibly lie about this?”

“You’ve got time to question her, so answer us.”

“Did you really cheat with Poppy? When did the two of you hook up? When you did it, did you even once think about being a father or a husband?”

The reporters’ questions stabbed like knives.

Caius went pale, stammering. “It’s not what you think!”

“Then what is it? Tell us!”

He pitied Poppy for being poor. He made exceptions for her again and again. Every time she played the victim, he had no problem wronging me-his Luna-just to satisfy her.

He was obsessed with her youth and her looks, but he’d never admit he’d strayed.

Every time he went too far with Poppy, he’d shift the blame onto me, claiming my hysterics” were what pushed him to divorce.

“unreasonable

Now, facing the reporters, Caius couldn’t defend himself.

The conference room doors burst open again.

Poppy rushed in, tears streaming down her face, and slapped herself across the cheek.

“Ravenna, I’m sorry! It’s all my fault. Take it out on me-just don’t make things harder for Alpha

Caius.”

The second she appeared, Caius shielded her in his arms, shielding her from any possible harm.

“Shh, Poppy. You didn’t do anything wrong.” He was gentle with Poppy, but when he turned to me; his voice was a whip. “Ravenna, haven’t you caused enough of a scene? You jealous bitch-do I have to divorce you to shut you up?”

Caius threw out the word divorce again.

I let out a cold laugh and hurled the signed divorce papers straight into his face.

“Caius, we are getting divorced! But I’m not the one being dumped-I’m dumping you!”

“Just looking at you makes me sick, you heartless bastard.”

The sharp edge of the papers sliced a bloody gash across Caius’s face.

He felt the sting, instinctively touched his cheek, and stared at me, dazed. “You’re divorcing me? How could you ever bring yourself to divorce me?”

He knew I loved him. He knew how well I treated him. He was certain I’d never leave-that’s why he

acted so recklessly.

After a beat of confusion, he pushed Poppy aside and walked toward me.

But his tone was still all threats. “Ravenna, don’t say things you don’t mean. I admit I’ve been a

little distracted when it comes to Eira. But it’s the end of the month. In a few days, my ability will be usable again. Why be so hasty?”

In front of the media, Caius couldn’t expose his ability, so he spoke in code-too many of the Silvervein Pack’s deals relied on it. He’d become Alpha because of it. If the Lycan King found out,

he’d lose his title and likely face prison.

His eyes showed a sliver of compromise.

He thought if he backed down, I’d stop.

But looking at him, all I could see was Eira on her deathbed, longing for him to show up.

Smack. I slapped him across the face.

Then I grabbed the mic stand and everything in reach and hurled it at him.

“Caius, Eira is dead! You’re standing on her ashes right now! You made her wait and wait-and this is the result. You don’t even deserve to say her name.”

As the words left my mouth, the prepared media pulled up Eira’s death certificate and the crematorium surveillance footage.

The screen played the video: me, alone, carrying Eira’s body to be cremated. Sobbing. Eyes hollow, like a puppet, clutching the urn on the way home.

Caius’s face went ghost-white as his eyes darted between the urn on screen and the one on the floor. He finally broke.

“How? How did this happen? I kept having Poppy check with the hospital-they always said Eira

was fine. How…”

He couldn’t accept it. He was mumbling to himself-until he spotted Poppy inching toward the

door.

“Poppy, why did you hide this from me? How dare you hide something this huge!”
