My Alpha Let Our Pup Die for Her Familiar Chapter 02

After we married, Caius suggested we save this card as Eira’s coming-of-age gift. I gave it to him for safekeeping and never touched the money again.

The staff tried over and over. It really wouldn’t work.

I had no choice but to hold Eira’s ashes close and make my way home, hollowed out.

The two wolf guards at the pack house gave me those looks. Still, they pushed open the red door.

Inside, Poppy was posing with an expensive purse worth eight hundred thousand dollars. Caius was taking photos of her.

She cooed in that syrupy voice.

“Caius, this bag is gorgeous—but won’t Luna Ravenna be mad? I mean, she’s so… practical.”

Caius kept snapping pictures, head down.

“Why would she be mad?”

“Silvervein is the richest pack in the Silverfang Dominion.”

“She pinches pennies because she doesn’t know any better. You’re young and stunning—you deserve everything I give you.”

He forgot Silvervein was wealthy because of me.

I watched them and laughed, cold.

“Spending someone else’s money—and you’ve still got the nerve to act smug.”

My voice cut through, and Caius—who’d been circling Poppy for the perfect angle—finally saw me.

He caught me staring at the camera. Embarrassment flashed across his face.

He straightened and cleared his throat.

“You bought this camera after we married. It’s partly mine. What’s wrong with me using it?”

“Besides, Poppy’s gorgeous. This camera’s getting better use than it ever did before.”

After Eira was born, I bought that camera just to document her growing up.

Caius always made snide remarks.

“How many pictures of the same thing do you need? Seriously.”

“A woman who photographs everything—so tacky.”

Yes.

Recording Eira was tacky.

But Poppy deserved the lens.

A sick feeling rose in my throat. I strode over and snatched the camera.

Before I could speak, Poppy clutched her chest and leaned weakly against Caius.

“Caius, if Luna Ravenna’s this angry, I should probably go.”

Caius held her, worried but firm.

“You’re spitting up blood and you’re an Omega—your body’s already fragile enough. You need someone taking care of you. You’re not going anywhere.”

Disgusted, I looked down at the camera.

The memory card had been completely wiped.

My fingers shook. “Where are the photos? Caius, every single picture of Eira since she was born was on here! What did you do?”

Caius froze. “I didn’t delete anything. Are you sure?”

He looked concerned and came over to check the camera with me.

A dark glint flashed in Poppy’s eyes.

She blinked, all innocence. “Wait, you mean all those identical baby photos? I figured you bought the camera secondhand, so I just wiped it clean.”

No guilt. Her tone was defiant, venomous.

“Those pictures were so ugly. They looked nothing like Alpha Caius. I didn’t recognize her, so I…”

“I didn’t mean to. I’m really sorry.”

I was so furious I slapped her hard across the face.

I never should’ve sponsored her. I should’ve let her stepfather sell her to that abusive rogue.

The ungrateful she-wolf clutched her swollen face in disbelief. She looked at Caius, pitiful. “She hit me?”

Caius instantly cupped her cheek to soothe her.

Then he glared at me, rage twisting his features.

“Ravenna, Poppy already said she didn’t mean it. What more do you want?”

“Eira’s right here with us. You can take pictures of her every damn day if you want!”

“But you had no right to put your hands on Poppy!”

He raised his hand to slap me. I dodged and held up the urn, my voice ice.

“You monster. You kept delaying—for her. Eira ran out of time. She’s dead, Caius.”

Caius stared at the urn, his expression unreadable.

He froze for a second.

Then he scoffed, and fury erupted.
