My Adopted Sister’s Rage Was Only for Me,So After Rebirth I Fought Back Chapter 06

Mom’s accusation silenced the hospital room.

Ethan recovered first. “You heard her, Officer. This wasn’t an innocent room change. Natalie

planned the whole thing!”

Dad immediately tightened his grip on Mom’s hand. “Don’t worry. We’ll make sure she pays

for what she did to you.”

I stood in the doorway and watched them close ranks against me.

Lily had held the knife. Yet with a few sentences, they had managed to put the blame back on

The next morning, Dad’s attorney came to the hospital.

In front of the police, he argued that I had known Lily became unstable around me and had deliberately switched rooms anyway.

“Ms. Bennett installed a camera in advance but made no attempt to stop the attack before it

occurred. We have reason to believe she knowingly used a mentally unstable person to harm

her own mother.”

Ethan immediately joined in. “She sat in the next room and watched it happen. How else could she have prepared everything so perfectly?”

I looked at him. “Did you personally see me watching the feed the entire time?”

He faltered. “Then why did you appear so quickly?”

“All of you stormed into the room and woke the entire house.

I turned to the attorney. “As for whether I delayed medical care, the timestamps on the

emergency calls will answer that.”

He didn’t press the question. Instead, he asked the officers to take my phone into evidence.

I handed it over willingly. The original footage had already been uploaded automatically, and

the emergency calls existed in more than one place. Nothing they did could erase them.

By noon, an edited video appeared online.

It showed only Mom and me moving our belongings, followed by a clip of me checking the camera feed from the primary bedroom.

Ethan also released what he called Lily’s farewell message, which she had sent him before she

was taken into eustody.

“Natalie wanted me in prison, so she put our unsuspecting mother in her room. I am sick, but I never wanted to hurt Mom. Natalie knew I couldn’t control myself, and she used me.”

Within hours, the story was everywhere.

People accused me of using a vulnerable woman as a weapon. Others claimed I had tried to destroy my own family because they might become a burden after I married into the Hayes

family.

Someone even found the date and venue of my wedding. Protesters and reporters gathered outside the hotel and demanded a response from the Hayeses.

The Hayes family soon announced that the wedding would be postponed.

When Dad heard, he barged into my room and slammed a prepared statement onto the table.

“Are you happy now? The wedding is off, and you’ve humiliated the entire Bennett family!

“Admit the room switch was a cruel prank and tell the district attorney you don’t want Lily prosecuted. If you cooperate, I won’t touch the shares in your name, and the wedding can still

happen.”

I read the statement and pushed it back. “I’m not signing this.”

His expression turned menacing. “Do you really think the Hayes family will welcome a woman suspected of trying to kill her own mother?”

“Whether I get married is my business.”

I took out my spare phone and called my fiancé, Adrian Hayes, in front of him.

“We’re postponing the wedding.”

Silence lasted for two seconds on the other end. Adrian didn’t question me or decide for me.

“Do you need an attorney?”

“Not yet.”

“All right. I’ll issue the announcement. You decide what it says.”

I looked out the window. “Say there’s an active investigation. I won’t walk down the aisle while

I’m suspected of trying to kill my own mother.”

After I hung up, Dad shook with rage.

“You’re so determined to punish Lily that you’ll throw away your own marriage?”

“I’m protecting my marriage,” I said. “I won’t build it on a lie told to protect an attempted

murderer.”

Ethan sneered. “You switched rooms, installed a camera, and waited until Lily stabbed her twice before appearing. As long as Mom insists she knew nothing, you’ll never explain your

way out of this.”

Mom lay weakly in the hospital bed. “I don’t blame you, Natalie. Drop the charges and admit

you provoked Lily. We can still be a family.”

Even now, she was making excuses for Lily, after those two blows had gone into her own body.

At last, I understood why I had died in my previous life.

It wasn’t because Lily’s knife had been so fast. It was because every person in this family had

been willing to hold me down and let Lily kill me.

“If you want the investigation stopped, take it up with the police.” I put away my phone. “They already have the full video, the emergency calls, and the door-access records. If you want any of it deleted, you’ll have to ask them.”

That afternoon, the police asked me to come to the station for an interview.

In an interview room, an officer slid Mom’s statement across the table.

It said she had known nothing about the room switch or the camera. She claimed I had used the wedding as an excuse to trick her into sleeping in my old room.

“Ms. Bennett, your mother says she had no idea what you were doing. Do you have evidence that she agreed to the switch?”

I turned to the final page and looked at Mom’s signature. Then I raised my head.

“Yes.”
