Married At 9AM, Divorced At 10AM Chapter 14

At the Grandview Hotel in Portsville, Jake walked into the bustling lobby.

But he couldn’t muster any interest.

His mind was completely occupied with the fact that Emma hadn’t replied.

A whole day had passed. No matter how busy she was, she should have looked at her phone by now.

Forget it.

Once this was over, he would go straight back to Fairhaven and find her.

Everything would be fine once they saw each other.

His father made small talk with a few people, then led Jake upstairs.

The lights were bright and the room was packed with people.

The emcee was speaking on stage while guests down below chatted with their glasses in hand.

Jake scanned the room absently, about to look away.

Then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a figure in a white wedding dress walking onto the stage from the side.

His entire body went rigid.

The phone slipped in his hand and nearly fell.

His lips moved, but no sound came out.

His father was talking to someone next to him and didn’t notice anything wrong.

On the stage, Nicholas walked over and put his arm around Emma’s waist.

He leaned down and whispered something in her ear.

She tilted her face up and smiled.

That smile was like a knife to his heart.

He couldn’t stay still anymore.

His mind buzzed with a single thought: No. No way.

She couldn’t have married someone else behind his back.

They had only been apart a few days?

Just a couple of days ago, she had said, “Okay, I’ll wait for you.” How could she…?

He took a sharp step forward.

“Jake?” His father called out from behind.

He didn’t turn around.

He walked through the crowd, past the laughter and clinking glasses.

Like a lost puppet, he walked step by step toward the stage.

“Emma…”

Someone blocked his way. *Sir—”

“Move.” His voice was so hoarse it was swallowed up by the noise of the guests.

“Emma!” He called out again, louder this time.

The person on the stage finally turned her head.

Her gaze landed on his face.

But her expression was calm. Distant.

It was worse than if she had yelled at him. Worse than tears. Worse than anything.

Jake’s sanity snapped.
