Luna Returned for Vengeance Chapter 19

Luna Returned for Vengeance Chapter 19

Nora’s POV

Our mate ceremony was a grand affair. Lucian had gathered the finest luxuries New York had and

laid them all before me.

Roses lined the long corridors. Crystal chandeliers shimmered like a sky full of stars. The audience was filled with pack Alphas, business associates, and senior members of the Vale family. And I, in my mate ceremony gown, walked toward him step by step.

I thought of that girl, years ago-leaving New York alone, struggling just to survive. Back then, I felt like the whole world had abandoned me. I never imagined that one day, someone would love me

like this.

Lucian looked uncharacteristically nervous as we exchanged our vows. He held my hand and spoke

quietly.

“To be honest, I only set out looking for a proper Madam Vale at first. Someone beautiful, clever and well-mannered – and ideally, someone who could keep my grandfather happy.”

Laughter burst out across the venue. Old Mr. Vale laughed so hard his white beard shook. I couldn’t

help but laugh too.

Yet Lucian’s gaze stayed fixed on me, overflowing with tenderness.

“That was when I learned how one can grow greedy all for the sake of another person. I started wanting to see you every day. I longed for you to lean on me, and to reserve your smiles solely for

To give you the best of everything.”
His thumb brushed over my ring finger, where the mate ceremony ring he had chosen for me sat.

“I wanted to be the place you could always call home. I wanted you to know that from now on, you’ll

never have to bear all your hardships alone again. You have me. You have the Vale family. And you

have our mate bond.”

His eyes glistened.

“Nora. Thank you for loving me. Meeting you has been the greatest blessing of my life.”

My eyes stung. Before I could speak, he leaned down and kissed me. Applause filled the whole hall.

In that moment, I felt completely safe. I finally understood the warmth of being wholeheartedly chosen and loved unconditionally.

Five Years Later

On the anniversary of my mother’s death, Lucian, our son, and I returned to the cemetery in New York to visit their graves and lay my condolences. After visiting my mother, father, and

grandmother, I met up with Claire and her family.

She helped me prepare sushi while we chatted casually about recent news.

“Hey, do you know how Ethan is doing these days?”

Hearing that name felt like another lifetime.

“How is he doing?” I asked.

Claire sighed.

“Two years ago, he took on a pro bono case. A young girl whose parents were killed by a spoiled wealthy Alpha heir in a hit-and-run. He won the case, but incurred the powerful family’s wrath. They retaliated and left him severely injured. He’s in a wheelchair now.”

I sliced through the eel on my plate, my voice calm.

“For once, he did something right.”

Claire glanced at me, her tone softer now.

“I went to see him a while ago. He said he doesn’t regret it. He also said that failing to stand up for you in your darkest days-that’s the biggest regret of his life. He just wants to make up for his

mistakes now.”

I listened, and felt nothing.

No amount of regret can mend old wounds. Some people slip away, and they are lost forever.

Just then, our son’s childish, aggrieved shout rang out.

“Mommy! Daddy cheated at cards! Come help me!”

I turned around. Lucian was leaning against a stone table. He didn’t look guilty at all.

“What’s the point of tattling?” he said. “My mate will always take my side. If you’re so tough, get yourself a mate too.’

I stepped forward, both amused and helpless, and flicked his forehead.

“Don’t fill our boy’s head with silly ideas.”

Lucian pulled me into his arms clinging to me like an affectionate giant wolf.

“Was I wrong? Our son will have his own mate someday. He’ll leave you. But I won’t.”

He kissed my cheek.

“I’ll love you forever. I’ll stay with you forever.”

Our son immediately ran over and grabbed my other arm.

“That’s not true! I’ll love Mommy forever too!”

I laughed and shook my head at their playful bickering.

Sunlight filtered through the leaves. The wind was soft. The weather was perfect. I felt their warmth

against me, and I thought-

This life is perfect.

The scarred, stumbling Nora of the past had finally obtained the happiness meant only for her..
