Janice couldn’t believe that Tim, someone she had trusted without question, was capable of something

this vicious.

She opened her mouth, but no words came. She had never told Tim to inject me.

Katie pulled a ring from her pocket and tossed it at her feet.

“Samuel asked me to give you this.”

Janice’s hands trembled as she picked it up.

It was our wedding ring.

Fear flooded her eyes, disbelief right behind it.

“H-He doesn’t want me anymore?”

The light reflecting off the ring stung her eyes.

Back then, on that mission, she took shrapnel for me. A fragment had pierced her ribs, and even like that,

she told me that I should find someone else.

I refused. I melted that piece of metal down and turned it into this ring.

On our wedding day, I told her that if there ever came a day I didn’t want her anymore, I would take it off.

And now I had.

Katie let out a cold laugh. “Yeah. He watched you get on that helicopter with Tim, watched his own wife cut off his only way out. Why would he still want you?”

Her mind went blank for a second.

Then, her mentor’s voice echoed through the arcane channel, heavy with a sigh.

“I checked the logs. Samuel connected to the channel. He was probably trying to reach you, but after

hearing what we said, he gave up.”

She had thought that as long as she kept quiet, I would never know.

She never imagined I had heard her cold, calculated words while I was being torn apart.

Janice had forgotten something: she was the one who had taught me how to access her channel.

Back then, she swore that as long as I reached her, she would find me as fast as possible, and that she would never let me get hurt.

She didn’t keep any of those promises.

Not only had I been hurt, but she was the reason it happened.

The realization hit her like a blow. Pain surged through her head, sharp enough to make her double over.

When we first fell in love, she told me the truth.

She wasn’t from this world. She wasn’t supposed to fall for someone here. Every time her feelings for me deepened, it triggered a backlash, like needles piercing through her, lasting ten minutes at a time.

After she met Tim, however, that pain had stopped.

Which meant she hadn’t really loved me for a long time.

“Janice, you’re a damn monster!”

Katie finally snapped, her voice breaking with anger.

“Samuel gave you everything! He would’ve died for you without a second thought, and this is how you repay him? You threw him into hell, and when he needed you the most… You chose another man and watched him get tortured to death!”

Janice collapsed onto the ground, all strength gone. Through tears, she looked up at Katie.

“Where’s his body? I’m taking him with me.”

Katie looked down at her, her expression empty. “There’s no body. He’s already been cremated. And you’re not getting his ashes, either. He told me to pass this on. He’ll never forgive you.”

She turned and left with the rest of the team, not looking back once.

Janice felt like thousands of needles were driving into her skull.

Her vision blurred, cold sweat soaking through her clothes. This pain was worse than anything she had

ever felt before.

When it finally eased enough for her to breathe, she slowly lifted her head. There was something

unsteady in her eyes now, something close to madness.

She reached out to her mentor again, her voice hoarse.

“If I put Tim back where he belongs, if I restore things… Will Samuel come back?”

Her mentor hesitated. “Janice… Calm down. Tim has already been reassigned as the new main protagonist. The world’s alignment has shifted. Even if Tim returns to his original path, Samuel won’t

come back.”

A hollow laugh slipped out of her.

“Won’t come back? I’m not letting him die like this! Anyone responsible for his death will pay for it!”
