Life Reset Don’t Love Me With Your Betrayal, Don Chapter 07

Four seasons slipped by, one after another.

Time simply flowed on, with the sun rising and setting, the tides rolling in and out without pause.

Four years had passed since I first arrived in Boston.

Professor Arthur Hale looked over my research results, a warm smile on his face.

“Excellent work, Olivia. No one else has managed to complete this research so far. Your doctorate is all but guaranteed.”

I smiled back at him.

“I owe it all to your guidance, Professor.”

He laughed heartily.

“Clara’s cooked a feast of Boston’s specialties for dinner tonight. Come over and celebrate with us. My son’s finally got some free time too—he’s been swamped with work lately.”

“I’d love to. Thank you,” I replied.

That evening, I was getting ready to head to their house when my phone rang.

“I’m downstairs waiting for you. Take your time.”

I had just opened my car door when I held up my phone and teased him.

“The busy Marcks Hale taking time out of his schedule to pick me up?”

The Professor says you barely have time to eat at home these days.”

He laughed. His usual calm gaze softened completely the moment it landed on me.

“I’ll always have time for you.”

I slid into the passenger seat. He leaned forward, closing the distance between us. Strong masculine scent filled the air around me.

My breath hitched. Our eyes locked, and the unspoken feelings between us hung thick in the air.

“Olivia, it’s been four years,” he said softly. “Don’t you think it’s time to give me an answer?”

I tried to push him away, but he did not move an inch.

“Please lean back first.”

He frowned slightly, looking displeased.

“Are you going to put me off again?”

Heat rose to my cheeks. All my hesitation faded away. I lifted my head and kissed him.

Marcks grinned after we pulled apart.

“You kissed me. Now you have to take responsibility for it.”

“Oh wow,” I joked playfully. “Guess I can’t be the heartless woman now.”

When Arthur and Clara saw us walking in hand in hand, they stared in surprise before bursting into loud laughter.

“Wonderful news! We’ve been hoping this day would come.”

After dinner, I received a phone call from my mother, Martha.

“Olivia, are you coming home this year? It’s been four years since you’ve visited.”

Guilt tugged at my heart. I had wanted to stay away once, but things were different now. I glanced over at Marcks, my eyes gentle. The past was nothing but a distant memory now.

“Yes. I’ll be home tomorrow.”

She cheered happily and hung up quickly to start preparing for a family dinner.

On the drive home later that night, Marcks held my hand while steering the car with his other.

“I’m heading back home tomorrow,” I told him.

His fingers tightened around mine at once.

“Running away to avoid taking responsibility?”

I blinked, then laughed.

“No, you’ve got it wrong. It’s just the holidays. I haven’t been home in four years, so I have to go see my family this time.”

He did not hesitate for a second.

“Then I’m coming with you. I need to pass your parents’ test too.”

A soft smile tugged at my lips.

“Alright.”

The plane landed in New York the next day. The city felt a little strange after all these years. My parents and Jake now lived in a villa in the suburbs of New York.

We pulled up to the house, and my blood ran cold when I spotted someone I never thought I would see again.

“Olivia…”

Looking at Ethan, I felt absolutely nothing. A strange sense of calm washed over me.

He had aged a great deal in four years. His eye sockets were sunken deep. His suit was still tailored and expensive, yet it could not hide his worn, defeated state. News had spread over the years that the Walker Family had been torn apart by constant internal conflicts, and his position as Don was hanging by a thread. None of it mattered to me anymore.

Marcks squeezed my hand tightly, his gaze turning sharp and hostile toward Ethan.

Ethan’s eyes dropped to our intertwined hands. His pupils shrank in shock.

“Olivia. Who is this man?”

I stayed silent. Marcks stepped forward to face him directly.

“I’m her husband. Who are you?”

Ethan reeled back as if he had been struck. He tried to rush over to me, but Marcks blocked his path firmly.

Rage flashed across Ethan’s face. He swung his fist hard at Marcks.

“Touch my woman, and I’ll make sure you disappear off the face of this earth.”

Marcks took the blow head-on. He let out a cold laugh and lunged forward. The two men began to grapple fiercely.

I called out in worry.

“Marcks! Stop fighting!”

I did not even realize it myself. Ethan’s life or fate meant nothing to me now.

Ethan noticed this too. He stopped struggling at once, hurt written all over his face.

“Olivia. I’ve spent four years searching for you. You can’t treat me like this. Can we talk?”

I pulled Marcks away from the fight, my face full of concern as I checked the cut on his lip.

“I’ll talk to him. Wait here for me.”

I walked over to Ethan, every part of me feeling annoyed.

“Say what you need to say. Then leave immediately.”
