“Just a Freak Show, Don’t Be Dramatic” Chapter 08

“Just a Freak Show, Don’t Be Dramatic” Chapter 08 A Peaceful New Chapter

My experiment was at the most critical stage, and I couldn’t afford to get distracted.

Dylan and Axel tried to sneak in privately a few more times.

But every single time, William’s guards stopped them right at the door. No exceptions.

William even threatened that if they showed up again, he’d break their legs and toss them out.

I didn’t care. I only caught bits of news about them now and then.

The Lewis family yanked Axel back pretty quick.

I wanted him dead at first, but later I thought better of it.

I asked William to short Lewis Group stock.

Their whole empire was crumbling and I bet he was completely losing his mind.

I wasn’t about to let Willow off the hook either. She’s the one who blew up my perfect life, so yeah, I hated her guts.

William sent her to that crazy live stream thing and she got beat up till she was out of her mind.

Dylan was the hard part though.

Before my parents passed away, they made me promise to look after him.

I had watched him grow up with my own eyes, and seeing what he had become absolutely broke my heart.

After turning it over in my mind a thousand times, I finally decided to expose every single dirty secret of how he had covered for Willow behind the scenes.

I got his medical license revoked permanently.

Once all that drama was settled, an overwhelming sense of peace washed over my soul.

The research proceeded smoothly and ended in total victory.

Hospitals and clinics practically tripped over themselves to recruit our team right away.

William showed a rare moment of sincerity following the awards dinner as he walked toward me in a tailored suit.

He looked at me with overwhelming affection and offered a perfectly blooming rose in his hand.

“Would you go out with me?”

I held his gaze for a second, reached out to take the rose, and said with a hint of helplessness, “The flower is beautiful, but I’m really sorry. I just can’t trust men’s promises anymore.”

His look remained stubborn and unwavering.

“I understand completely. Just don’t shut me out, alright? There’s no rush. I’ll show you I mean it.”

I didn’t say yes and I didn’t say no.

William was hot and talented and basically perfect on paper.

Spending months with him made me feel every ounce of his devotion.

Still my heart had walls and they were not coming down that easy.

I chuckled softly because he was absolutely right about one thing.

Time was long so we could take it slow.

When I headed back to our country William refused to let me out of his sight.

I was literally just there for a research presentation.

But this billionaire CEO was chasing me around like I was his entire world.

His excuse was that he was terrified I would ghost him the second I landed.

I was so done with it that I just let him be.

Walking out of the airport after landing back in Seraphine City, I ran into someone I never thought I’d see again.

Axel.

He spotted me and tried to push right through the bodyguards to get to me.

He yelled out loud.

“It’s me! Nancy!”

I turned around but couldn’t recognize him at all.

After the Lewis Group went under, he got buried in debt and lost everything overnight.

He was a far cry from his old confident self, and honestly looked more like a homeless guy now.

William noticed I wasn’t reacting, so he waved his hand to signal the guards to haul him away.

Later at the lecture hall, I finished my talk and was just hanging around waiting for lunch.

The staffer in charge of food had been rushing for ages, and finally gave us an apologetic smile.

“Really sorry, I fell down on the delivery run. Just need a few more minutes.”

I told her it was totally fine.

Half an hour later, a delivery guy finally rushed in, completely out of breath.
