When I returned to the classroom, Stella rushed over and threw her arms around me.

“Tessa, are you okay?”

“I’m fine.”

I put my bag down on my seat.

“Thank God.” Stella was practically shaking. “I knew there was something wrong with Chloe.”

As she spoke, she suddenly lowered her voice.

“Rowan’s here.”

I looked up.

Rowan stood in the doorway, his expression unreadable.

After a long hesitation, he walked to my desk.

“Tessa, can I talk to you for a second?”

I met his eyes.

“Go ahead.”

He gritted his teeth.

“I was wrong. I shouldn’t have doubted you, and I never should have told you to confess.”

“I’m sorry.”

His voice dropped.

“I know I hurt you.”

“Can you give me one more chance?”

The classroom was silent.

Everyone was watching us.

I looked at him, and when I spoke, my voice was calm.

“Rowan, you’re no different from my parents or my brother.”

He froze.

“When I needed you to believe in me the most, you all chose to doubt me.”

“And after the truth came out, you all came to apologize.”

“But the damage was already done.”

Rowan’s expression faltered.

“Tessa, I really—”

“I don’t want to date someone who takes the other side when it matters most.”

I looked straight at him.

“Don’t come looking for me again.”

“I’m done wasting my time on people who aren’t worth it.”

Rowan stood there for a long time. Finally, without another word, he turned and left.

Stella watched him go, then looked back at me.

“You’re really not giving him another chance?”

“No.”

I lowered my head and opened my book.

This time, I had no intention of ever looking back.
