Stella was on edge all day, unable to sit still.

“Tessa, you have to do something. The whole school is talking about you.”

“Some people are saying you’d do anything to stay in the AP track. Others are saying your family must have donated a ton of money to the school, so you’ll get away with it.”

I glanced out the window.

Chloe was standing near the athletic field with a few other girls, wearing that same deeply wounded expression.

She really was a phenomenal actress.

“Don’t worry,” I said. “Just wait.”

That afternoon, the school announced a disciplinary hearing.

Mom and Dad arrived at the school within the hour.

Nico rushed back from his campus.

The auditorium was filled with teachers, administrators, and student representatives.

When I walked to the stage and stood at the podium, every eye in the room was on me.

Mom looked at me, her eyes filled with disappointment.

“The school says you cheated on an exam?”

“I didn’t.”

“Then how do you explain the video?”

“I haven’t seen the full video,” I said. “But that person isn’t me.”
