“How can you be so calm?”

“Because it’s not true,” I said.

“But she has a video!”

“Then let her post it.”

Stella was about to argue more, but she glanced toward the door and lowered her voice.

“Rowan’s here.”

I looked up.

Rowan stood in the doorway, beckoning to me.

I followed him out to the stairwell at the end of the hall.

He leaned against the wall, silent for a moment before speaking.

“You saw the Instagram post, right?”

“I saw it.”

He hesitated again.

“Did you really do it?”

I didn’t answer, just held his gaze.

Rowan shifted uncomfortably and looked away first.

“Chloe said she has the full video.”

“The one that shows you going into the academic office and photographing the exams.”

“She said if you go to the school and admit it now, she’ll speak up for you, ask them not to punish you too severely.”

I laughed, a short, sharp sound.

“So you came here to convince me to confess?”

“Tessa, I’m trying to help you.”

“Chloe said she’ll keep the video from getting out, but only if you’re willing to admit what you did.”

“Rowan.”

I cut him off.

“Do you actually believe her?”

He froze.

“She said I stole the exam papers, and you just… believed her?”

“But she said she has evidence.”

“Then let her show it.”

I turned to leave.

“Tessa.”

He called after me.

“Aren’t you scared? What if the video is real?”

I turned back to face him.

“If it’s real, I’ll admit it.”

I paused.

“But if it’s fake… then what you’re doing right now is no different from what all those people in the comments are doing.”

The color drained from Rowan’s face.
