I Was Tortured and Buried Alive under the Tower, So I Triggered Nightmares to Confess Chapter 06

The woman’s face materialized crystal clear before everyone’s eyes. It was none other than Marnie.

A collective gasp rippled through the crowd.

“It’s actually Marnie!”

“This is earth-shattering news! Marnie, the renowned Millfield City architect and Mr. Mercer’s wife, is the true culprit behind the female corpse case at the Fortitude Spire!”

Panic crashed over Marnie. She had never expected the medium to wield such formidable power. Even so, she forced herself to stay calm, squeezing out fake tears to win sympathy.

“Rowan, all of this must be fabricated. What reason could I possibly have to harm Seren?”

“Seren showed me boundless kindness. I would never hurt her, not for anything.”

A small faction within the crowd spoke up in her defense.

“That’s true. If it weren’t for Mrs. Mercer, we would never have received our unpaid wages and compensation. How could someone so kind be a murderer?”

“Could there be some mistake? Even Homer nods…”

But their voices were quickly drowned out by the majority.

“The evidence is laid out right in front of you. Why keep deceiving yourselves?”

“Elias is righteous and deeply versed in occult arts. He would never side with a long-dead Seren unless every word shown is the unvarnished truth!”

“It turns out Seren never betrayed the firm or Mr. Mercer. She was murdered on purpose.”

Rowan’s voice turned ice-cold in that instant.

“Have you been lying to me this entire time?”

“I… I’m your wife. How could I ever lie to you?”

“Rowan, we have Beau waiting for us at home. Let’s go back, alright?”

Rowan did not spare her a single glance. He turned and knelt before Elias, his eyes already glistening red.

“Master, I beg you. I need to know everything that happened to Seren afterward. Please…”

Watching his overwhelming grief, my heart twisted with a tangled mess of emotions.

If only he had trusted me more back then, would we not have ended up like this?

He would never know—every time I heard couples touring the Fortitude Spire laugh and gush about his love for Marnie, my resentment swelled deeper within me.

Bit by bit, year after year, the bitterness grew too heavy to contain.

Elias let out a long sigh.

“We shall continue witnessing the past, but steel your heart for what you are about to see.”

With that, he flicked his broom.

The terrible night unfolded once more before everyone’s eyes.

I had never known Marnie and I shared the same mother, different fathers.

Years ago, our mother abandoned Father and me without hesitation to run off with a wealthy businessman, eager to live as a rich man’s mistress.

I grew up relying solely on Father in a small county town.

But from Marnie’s lips, I learned the ugly truth.

The so-called wealthy businessman our mother eloped with had no fortune at all—he was merely a pimp.

After tricking her overseas, he treated her as a tool for profit, forcing her to entertain endless strangers. Not even Marnie herself knew which man had fathered her.

The pimp only sent her to school and taught her to read so he could sell her off for a higher price later. From childhood, she was fed nothing but cruelty and a burning hatred for the world.

Once she came of age, a sympathetic overseas classmate helped her scrape together the funds to return home. By pure chance, she landed a position at Northmoon Architecture.

At first, she was grateful to me. She thanked me for taking her in and offering her a dignified job. Everything shifted the moment she learned I was her half-sister. Her hatred ignited like wildfire, and I became its primary target.

She resented the safe, happy childhood I’d spent under Father’s protection. Most of all, she envied the sincere love Rowan gave me.

She waited patiently for a chance to strike, and that opportunity arrived with Jax.
