The candle flames burned bright as everyone slipped into a collective trance, watching the hidden past unfold.

The woman standing over me finally came into partial view. I knew perfectly well it was Marnie.

Her voice dripped with bitter hatred.

“We came from the same background. Why did you get so lucky to have Rowan?”

“He gave you everything. You became a famous, respected architect. What makes you so special?”

A man stood beside her. Someone in the crowd shouted in recognition.

“That’s Jax Reed! The man from the old scandal photos!”

Jax wore a cunning grin, his eyes lingering greedily.

“I kept my end of the deal. Now, what do you plan to give me in return?”

Marnie looked at him with clear irritation.

“You have the construction contract you wanted. What more could you ask for?”

“Stealing a major project is illegal,” Jax replied with a smirk. “I risked a great deal for you. I expect more than just business rewards.”

Marnie’s hatred flared for a moment before she composed herself.

“Fine. Did you find the person I asked for?”

“Of course I did.”

The scene changed instantly. Marnie stood over me as I sat tied to a chair, wearing a sweet, cruel smile.

“Rowan once said your eyes held all his dreams and joy,” she purred.

“Then I will make sure those eyes never see him again.”

A dark mercenary stepped forward at her signal.

He picked up a sharp metal awl, gripped my jaw firmly, and aimed it straight for my eyes.

Agony tore from my throat in a bloodcurdling scream. The onlookers winced at the brutal sight.

“Monster!” someone roared.

Marnie laughed loudly, filled with vicious delight.

“Finally. You know what it feels like to suffer, Seren.”

I fought through the overwhelming pain and struggled to speak.

“Why… why do you hate me so much?”

The crowd voiced the same question, horrified by the unnecessary cruelty.

Rowan stared at the vision in utter shock.

Confusion, regret and agony warred across his face.

He gritted his teeth and spoke in a hoarse voice.

“Use my blood again. I need to see everything. I have to know if this was staged, or if there truly was a plot against her.”

Marnie’s face turned ashen white. She tried desperately to stop Elias, but the medium saw right through her lies. He chanted another spell.

The final truth was about to be revealed to everyone.
