I Was Tortured and Buried Alive under the Tower, So I Triggered Nightmares to Confess Chapter 02

A gasp rippled through the crowd. “That’s Mr. Mercer’s ex-wife!”

Rowan froze on the spot, utterly stunned.

He had heard tales of Elias’s extraordinary abilities, but witnessing them firsthand shook him to his core.

Legend said the candles would always reveal the name of the wronged soul.

Why did it have to be Seren?

How could she have any grievances?

Before he could collect his thoughts, the candlelight shifted again, marking a clear location.

“The body lies directly beneath the spire. Do you believe me now?”

Elias waved his ritual broom.

“We will learn the full truth of her fate here today.”

Rowan’s mind swirled in chaos. He gritted his teeth and ordered workers to bring in excavation equipment.

A woman’s voice cut through the noise before anyone could move.

“Stop right now!”

Everyone turned to see Marnie Carter rushing over. She was his newlywed wife, and the assistant I’d hired personally.

“Marnie, what are you doing here?” Rowan asked.

Marnie’s face was twisted with agitation.

“Fortitude Spire is not just a symbol of our love. It was Seren’s final wish too!”

“I’ve entered this design into a major International Architecture Contest Gold Award. Ruining the foundation will destroy all of her hard work for nothing.”

She had pushed herself to the limit preparing for the contest for months, and exhaustion showed clearly on her pale face.

Rowan stepped forward and took her hand gently.

“You’re too kind. I know Seren gave you this job, and you’re only trying to repay her.”

“But this design belongs entirely to you. You do not need to credit her for it.”

“I promise to restore everything perfectly after we finish. The contest will not be affected.”

Tears welled up in Marnie’s eyes.

“Rowan. Are you so eager to dig because you still love her? Are you afraid the body really is hers?”

Rowan denied it at once.

“Of course not.”

“Seren abandoned our company and stole all the blueprints out of pure selfishness. Northmoon Architecture collapsed because of her actions.”

“Staff members went half a year without pay. Some even lost their lives out of desperation. My own mother suffered greatly because of her as well.”

“If that body is truly hers, she got exactly what she deserved.”

“I will ask the medium to banish her spirit so she can never return again.”

I drifted beside Rowan, listening to every cruel word he spoke.

Marnie fell silent, her arguments silenced. She eventually nodded slowly.

“Fine. I will stay and watch the divination too.”

Rowan gestured for the workers to start digging. I did not miss the cold sweat on Marnie’s forehead or the fear hidden in her eyes.

It did not take long to reach the spire’s core. A sealed casket lay directly underneath.

Rowan ordered his men to haul it above ground.

When the lid was pried open, only a set of unrecognizable bones remained inside.

Rowan’s gaze locked onto the wedding band wrapped around one bony finger. He stood frozen for several seconds.

He hurried toward the casket, reaching out to take a closer look at the band.

“Do not touch it!” Elias blocked his path with his ritual broom.

“The inside of this casket is covered in powerful charms. Touching it will drive you mad at best, and kill you instantly at worst.”

Police officers who had planned to collect bone samples for identification hesitated and stepped back.

Murmurs spread through the crowd.

“Is this really Seren Lowell? Who would lay such terrible curses on her?”

The couples haunted by dreams grew increasingly anxious.

“We don’t want to die. How can we ever uncover the truth now?”

Elias let out a quiet laugh and drew another charm.

Thick white smoke billowed out, blinding everyone present.

“Close your eyes,” he instructed. “The true crimson candle divination begins now.”

My spirit sighed as my long-buried memories were pulled to the surface for all to see.
