I Was Planning Our Wedding When He Told Me He Had a Wife Chapter 07

Jason rubbed his throbbing temples. “What?”

“Not sure, but they’re saying Evelyn… she’s covered in blood!”

Jason was only stunned for a split second before letting out a scoff. “She’s really putting on a show now!”

“Weren’t you guys just betting yesterday that she’s too proud deep down to ever tolerate Chloe’s existence? Now she’s pulling this stunt, this life-and-death drama…” His tone was assured and mocking.

“It’s nothing more than just trying to blow things up, force me to take a public stand, to ditch Chloe for good. Aren’t these all the usual tactics when women try to force a man’s hand?”

“But Jason, listen—this feels different. What if… what if Evelyn was pregnant? What if she lost the baby?”

“They say Mrs. Jones… she saw the blood and fainted on the spot! The whole place is in chaos! They’ve cleared the venue now. I don’t know exactly what happened, but you… shouldn’t you go back and check?”

The accumulated stress of recent days and the current chaos pushed Jason’s irritation to the peak. “Alright, Chase.” Jason cut him off.

Looking at the pale-faced Chloe in his arms, the slight unease stirred by Chase’s tone was swiftly overwhelmed by annoyance for Evelyn’s “scheming.”

“My mother-in-law’s health isn’t so fragile she’d faint over a scene like this! The old lady dotes on her daughter. She’s just putting on an act to back her up, that’s all.”

“As for losing a baby, impossible. She knows better than anyone how much I’ve wanted a child of our own all these years.”

“If she was really pregnant with your kid, you really think she’d have kept that to herself? Come on. That’s her golden ticket. She’d have played that hand the second she had it, just to force me to finally pick a side.”

Chase tried to say something, but Jason’s voice came through again, “I’ve spoiled her too much, that’s why she thinks she can manipulate me this way.”

“But…”

“Alright, I know what I’m doing. Gotta go. I’ll deal with this side first.” Jason without room for argument hung up and tossed the phone aside.

He told the driver to take it easy, carefully adjusted his position to make Chloe more comfortable. His fingers brushed away the sweat-dampened strands of hair from her forehead.

See. Chloe was so simple, so fragile, needing his complete protection and attention.

But Evelyn… His eyes darkened. When had she become so calculating, willing to fight like this? He was disappointed. He thought they were soulmates, beyond needing those intangible things…

He’d told her before the wedding because he truly thought what they had was strong enough to handle a… complication from his past.

He’d expected Evelyn to get it. To do what she’d always done, understand his position, see the practicality in the arrangement he’d made, and just… accept it.

Six years, not six days. They were harmonious, in love, perfectly matched in every way. But no matter how well-suited they were, he had to let her know some lines couldn’t be crossed. Some choices weren’t hers to force.

At the hospital, after the check-up, the doctor said flatly, “Nothing serious. Emotional agitation is likely the bigger factor than anything physical.”

Hearing this, Jason felt an inexplicable irritation. He hadn’t truly wished Chloe harm.

But just now, he clearly realized this interruption had ruined the ceremony he’d carefully prepared for himself and Evelyn. It could have gone smoothly…

Chloe timidly pulled at Jason’s sleeve. “Jason, I’m sorry… I really didn’t mean to. I didn’t know the wedding was today. I just felt so upset and wanted to see you… I never thought it’d end like this. Did I… cause trouble for you and Ms. Jones again?”

Seeing her helpless, fragile look, the irritation in Jason’s heart was ultimately suppressed by a slightly helpless sense of responsibility.

He sighed, his tone softening. “It’s fine. Just… try to be more careful, alright? You should rest.”

Turning to go pay the bill, he passed several medical staff rushing a gurney down the hall. The sheet was pulled up high, only a pale, lifeless hand hanging outside.

Jason instinctively glanced at the familiar mole on the back of that hand…
