It wasn’t until dinner that Alex told me Adrian would never bother me again.

I simply nodded and didn’t ask what had happened.

Adrian returned to Alderwick City with one of his legs broken.

He locked Evelyn inside the house and cut off all cooperation with Mercer Holdings.

Not long after, Richard Mercer and Nathan came to confront him.

“Adrian, what happened? Why did you suddenly terminate our partnership?”

“Weren’t our two families working together perfectly before? If you pull your investment now, Mercer

Holdings will collapse!”

Richard looked exhausted.

Overnight, he seemed to have aged several years.

“And Evelyn… why haven’t we been able to contact her lately?”

“Adrian, what exactly happened?”

Adrian let out a cold laugh.

Every word carried the anger and hatred he had buried deep inside for years.

“This is only the beginning.”

“Next, the Mercer Family will go bankrupt.”

“You’ll be buried in debt and end up in prison.”

“Adrian, have you lost your mind?”

Nathan finally couldn’t hold back his anger anymore.

He punched Adrian across the face.

“Did you find another woman again? Is that why you’re trying to destroy Mercer Holdings?”

“My two sisters married you. Wasn’t that enough for you?”

“What exactly do you want?”

Adrian wiped the blood from the corner of his lips.

“What do I want?”

“I want Vivian back.”

His eyes turned red as he roared.

“If you and your family hadn’t joined forces to hurt her, she never would have left!”

“The reason I treated you well all these years was because Vivian cared about you!”

“But now, Vivian hates all of you.”

“I’m going to make everyone who ever hurt her pay!”

“If you hadn’t brought Evelyn into my life back then, Vivian and I would never have ended up like this!”

“You, your family, and Evelyn… every single one of you will pay for what you’ve done!”

Nathan grabbed him by the collar and gritted his teeth.

“You were the one who chose Evelyn first, you bastard!”

The men started fighting.

The confrontation continued until the police arrived.

A few days later, Mercer Holdings officially declared bankruptcy.

Unable to handle the blow, Richard suffered a stroke at home and passed away.

Nathan went to confront Adrian again.

During their fight, the two men fell from a high–rise building.

Neither of them survived.

As for Evelyn…

When people finally found her, she had already been locked in the basement by Adrian for nearly a month.

Her mind had completely broken, and she had become a madwoman.

I only learned about all of this later.

Once Adrian was no longer a threat, I flew to Switzerland alone.

Beneath the Alps, the lakes were crystal clear.

The mountain breeze brushed through my hair, carrying away everything I had left behind.

Someone once promised to travel the world with me.

I thought the person I cared about was him.

But later, I realized that what I truly wanted was the freedom to break free from everyone’s control and see the world beyond the life they had chosen for me.

A voice came from behind me.

“Ms. York, what a coincidence. We meet again.”

I turned around.

At that moment, the breeze rose once more.

And Alex walked toward me with a smile.
