Nathan frowned.

“Vivian, don’t talk like that.”

“We never intended to hurt you. But you’ve always been stubborn since you were young. If we hadn’t done this, you never would have accepted Evelyn.”

“Evelyn hasn’t been emotionally stable since giving birth. We were worried she might develop postpartum depression, so we came up with this little bet to make her happy. You don’t need to take it so seriously.”

I curled my lips into a faint smile.

“If that’s the case, then just give me money.”

“Dad gives me seven point four million dollars. Nathan gives me four point five million dollars.”

“I’ll continue pretending everything is fine. I’ll keep taking care of Evelyn.”

“What do you think?”

Nathan’s face turned pale with anger.

“Vivian, how much longer are you going to keep causing trouble?”

I let out a cold laugh.

“It’s just a little money.”

“Are you saying the powerful Whitmore and Mercer families of Alderwick City can’t even afford that?”

“Enough.”

“If money is what you want, I’ll give it to you.”

Adrian glanced at me, opened the drawer, and pulled out a set of documents.

“Evelyn has already given birth. My child cannot be born outside of marriage.”

“Sign these divorce papers, and the fifteen million dollars will be transferred to your account immediately.”

I looked down at the few sheets of paper in front of me.

Without hesitation, I picked up the pen and signed my name.

Adrian stared at me.

His expression became complicated.

“You really care about money that much?”

“You weren’t like this before…”

I forced myself to endure the pain that felt like it was tearing me apart.

Then I put on a smile, pretending that none of this mattered.

“If I didn’t want money, what else could you give me?”

He stared at me.

“Maybe you could beg me not to divorce you.”

“Vivian, if you just ask me to stay, I’ll tear up this agreement right now.”

Beg him?

I bit my lip.

My mind went back to those months after I discovered Adrian’s affair with Evelyn.

I had begged him countless times.

I had even hurt myself just to make him come home.

But all I got in return was one sentence.

“Don’t do that again. Evelyn can’t stand the sight of blood.”

“And then what?”

I looked at him calmly, my voice filled with quiet bitterness.

“Then you’ll say this was just another one of your games.”

“Another bet you made because you wanted to watch me become a joke.”

A dry laugh escaped my throat.

It tightened painfully.

“Adrian, stop testing me.”

“You wasted three years of my love and my life.”

“Isn’t that enough?”

The tears I had been holding back for so long finally fell.

Adrian instinctively raised his hand and wiped them away.

A flicker of hesitation crossed his eyes.

Then a hint of guilt appeared.

He sighed.

“Evelyn did give birth to my child.”

“She’s still young. Sometimes she acts impulsively.”

“As her sister, you should try to be more understanding.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll keep my place as your wife open for you.”

“My marriage to her is only to give our child a legal identity.”

He paused, as if afraid I wouldn’t believe him.

“I’ll still give you the fifteen million dollars.”

“Take the money and go somewhere else for a while.”

“Once I’ve handled everything, we’ll get remarried.”

“Isn’t that enough for you?”

I lifted my face and smiled softly.

“Okay.”

“Then book me a flight to Switzerland.”

“We promised we would go see the lakes in the Alps together.”

Adrian finally relaxed.

He pulled me tightly into his arms.

“Okay.”

“You go first.”

“Once everything is settled, I’ll take you there myself.”

“Vivian, wait for me.”

I leaned against his shoulder and said nothing.

But deep down, I knew—

I would never wait for him again.
