Chloe wouldn’t stop talking. 

“I’m so sorry you were worried, but I really just went for a walk…I didn’t know you were all looking for me. It’s so touching.” 

“Stop.” he interrupted, his voice flat. “Why was your 

dress in Elena’s car?” 

Chloe’s expression flickered for a split second, then 

she widened her eyes in confusion. “What? I…I don’t 

know. Maybe I left it there before… I’ve been in her 

car.” 

“And why was there blood on it?” 

Her confusion seemed to deepen. “Blood? What blood? 

Aaron, what’s going on?” 

He stared at her, watching for every flutter of her 

lashes, every tiny twitch of her lips. Suddenly, he felt 

exhausted. 

He sighed and rubbed his brow. “Never mind. I’m going 

to take a shower. Let’s get some sleep.” 

That night, as they lay in bed, he waited until he heard Chloe’s even breathing. Then he got up and pulled her 

phone from the nightstand. 

The passcode was Aiden’s birthday. The phone was clean, almost unnaturally so. 

Just as he was about to give up, a bank notification caught his eye. A massive transaction. $100,000. Paid to a user named “ShadowClean.” 

His blood ran cold. 

You-” his voice broke into rage. “You vicious little 

bitch!” 

He grabbed Chloe’s arm and yanked her out of bed, throwing her onto the floor. She screamed as she fell. 

Chloe scrambled backward. “Aaron! What’s wrong? Did I do something wrong?” 

“Still pretending?” He held up her phone, the transaction clearly displayed on the screen. 

She froze. 

Then she dropped her gaze, took a deep breath. When she looked up again, a twisted smile curled her lips. 

“So what if I did? Are you angry? Angry for her? After what she did to you, you actually feel sorry for that 

bitch?” 

She did it because of me! Aaron wanted to roar, but he 

couldn’t say any of it. 

He grabbed her hair. “What business is it of yours? Who do you think you are?” 

She went pale. “How can you say that? I’m carrying your pup!” 

“So what? Elena gave me Aiden too.” His expression 

was ice cold. “What, did you think that just because 

you’re pregnant, you could frame Elena…” 

The image of Elena’s bloodied body on the asphalt flashed before his eyes. A pang of anguish shot through 

him. 

“It’s all because of you!” she shrieked. “You promised 

you would leave her! But you didn’t! You even wanted 

to take my baby away and have her raise it!” 

“What else was I supposed to do? You’re so selfish! You’re so heartless! I’m fighting for myself, for my pup! Why shouldn’t I do this?” 

Her rage dissolved into violent sobs. “Tell me! What does she have that I don’t? Tell me!” 

Looking at her expression, Aaron felt the last shred of feeling he had for her snap. 

“She has everything you don’t.” 

She let out a raw, broken scream and lunged at him, fists swinging. “You monster! How could you do this to 

me! I’ve given you so much!” 

He caught her wrists easily. “Get rid of the baby. I’ll 

give you money. A lot of money. You’re young. You’ll find someone else.” 

“I don’t want to hear it!” she screamed, her eyes 

blazing with hatred. 

“You think getting rid of me will make her forgive you? That’s impossible! You think women forgive that easily? After what you did to her, she’ll hate you 

forever!” 

“Shut up!” 

The Alpha command burst from him involuntarily. He backhanded her across the face, sending her crashing 

to the floor. 

Without looking back, he turned and left the house, her screams chasing him into the night.
