I Walked Away From His Regret Chapter 07

After saying all that, I left the house.

Before I left, I told Edward I wouldn’t be coming back before the divorce, and someone would come grab r

things in a couple days.

He didn’t say anything, and he didn’t stop me.

I owned another property here. It had been fully decorated but I barely ever stayed there.

I bought it back then just to have a place to crash when things went wrong. Moving in directly now worked

out perfectly.

I handed Edward’s upcoming inspection trip to our branch project site off to someone else.

My coworker said over the phone, “Mr. Lawrence only brought his assistant, no secretary. He even asked

where you were.

“I told him you’d handed the project off, and he seemed pretty upset about it.

“What do you think that means, huh?”

I said, “Who knows what he’s thinking. Good luck to you all.”

A week later, my lawyer called and said Edward refused to negotiate with her. He insisted I had to be there,

that he wanted to talk to me face to face.

I had no choice but to go to his company.

I hadn’t seen him in a week, and he looked like he’d lost a little weight.

But he still carried that same unflappable, can-fix-anything aura-his back always straight, his expression

calm, like a solid slab of steel with no weak spots.

I suddenly thought of the old photos of him chasing Queenie to Europe to beg her to get back together. Maybe only Queenie ever got to see his vulnerable side.

After I sat down, the first thing he said was-“I made Queenie resign.

“She’s not my secretary anymore.”

He paused, “Sheryl, stop making a scene.”

I took a deep breath.

I forced my voice to stay steady.

“I’ll say it again. I’m serious about getting a divorce.

“If you don’t want to talk, I’ll just file for divorce.”

His face darkened. He sounded stubborn, like he couldn’t understand what I was saying.

“I didn’t think enough about you before. I was definitely in the wrong.

“From now on, if you don’t want to see Queenie, I’ll never let her show up in front of you again. I’ll never meet

her in private.”

“If you want to know what I’m doing every day, who I’m meeting, I’ll tell you everything.”

He was completely sincere.

I knew he meant every word.

But divorce wasn’t a negotiation. He couldn’t just hash out terms and pretend nothing ever happened.

I shook my head tiredly, stood up, and turned to leave.

He shot to his feet so fast he tripped over his chair, and grabbed me.

“Sheryl, let’s talk this through.”

I looked back at him coolly. “There’s nothing left to talk about.

“Since you refuse to talk divorce, I’ll have my lawyer draft the papers first. If you don’t agree, I’ll just file suit.”

He grabbed my wrist and wouldn’t let go.

“But I suggest you agree.” I paused, my voice dropping. “Edward, I don’t want this to be so pathetic.”

When he heard that, his face drained of color inch by inch.

He let go of my hand.

I turned and walked out.

I’d just gotten down to the lobby when I ran straight into Queenie, completely unexpectedly.

The second she saw me, the smile dropped off her face, and she stared at me icily.

I kept my eyes forward and tried to walk past her.

She stepped sideways and blocked my path.

“Sheryl, I didn’t see it before-you’re really manipulative, aren’t you?”
