I Used To Heal From Everything He Let Her Do To Me, Until I Couldn’t Chapter 08

The officer was silent for a long time, his eyes full of pity. “We already ran a DNA test. It’s confirmed to be Evelyn Hart.” 

Adrian’s heart felt as if a giant hand had closed around it. 

His legs weakened, and he fell to the floor. 

“Will you be claiming the body? If not, we can arrange 

cremation.” 

“No cremation!” His voice came out hoarse and raw. 

“Then you can claim her.” The officer paused, as if he could barely bear to continue. 

“Also, we found the people who dumped her body there.” 

After hearing the officer’s findings and finishing the paperwork to claim the body, Adrian walked out in a daze. 

As he passed several officers, he heard them talking. 

“I heard they found a body today. Burned alive?” 

“Yeah. A young woman. I walked past and didn’t even dare look. I was afraid I’d have nightmares.” 

“I couldn’t help looking once. With how curled up she was, can you imagine how much pain she was in before she died?” 

They were only whispering, but the words struck Adrian like thunder, making his eardrums ache. 

Pain? 

Right. 

I had always been afraid of pain. 

He suddenly remembered a long time ago. 

I had only stubbed my toe against a table leg, and I had crouched on the floor crying from the pain. 

He had needed a long time to coax me. 

Later, after the blood–proxy curse was cast, I suffered more 

and more injuries. 

At first, when I cried that it hurt, he patiently comforted me. 

But when it happened too many times, he gradually became 

impatient. 

“You heal fast anyway. Do you have to act like you’re dying every single time?” 

After that, I stopped crying out. 

And so he forgot that I was made of flesh and blood too. 

Healing quickly did not mean it did not hurt. 

His chest felt as if a hole had been torn through it, letting in a 

wind so cold it stole his breath. 

He returned home in a daze. 

Ivy was curled up on the couch eating potato chips. 

When she heard movement, she smiled and turned her head. “Adrian, come watch TV with me.” 

He stood motionless in the entryway, staring at her with 

ice–cold eyes. 

With one gesture, two men behind him stepped forward, neatly twisted Ivy’s arms behind her back, and forced her to 

her knees. 

Ivy’s face changed sharply, and she struggled hard. “What are 

you doing? Let go of me.” 

“Hit her.” 

At his command, the whip cut through the air beside her ear. 

Pain exploded across her back. 

She let out a shrill scream, tears and snot running down her 

face almost instantly. 

Her words came out broken. “It hurts. Adrian. Why are you… hitting me?” 

His expression was cold. “You dumped Evelyn at an abandoned dumping ground. Shouldn’t you be punished?” 

Her pupils shrank. 

“I spent days nearly turning this city upside down looking for her, and you never said a word. Did you think this was funny?” 

He suddenly seized her by the throat and slowly tightened his grip. “You ask me why I’m hitting you? Then I’ll ask you. Why did you do it?” 

Ivy’s face went pale. 

She struggled to breathe, her hands slapping uselessly at his 

arm. 

Only when she was about to suffocate did he abruptly let go. 

Ivy collapsed to the floor, coughing violently, tears and cold sweat smeared across her face. 

But this time, no one scooped her into his arms and coaxed her. 

The whipping did not stop. 

The room was filled only with the dull impact of leather striking flesh, mixed with her broken sobs and desperate pleas. 

Adrian closed his eyes. 

At last, he understood what kind of terrible mistake his years of limitless indulgence had created. 

Why had she done it? 

The truth was, he already knew.
