I Saw The Comments And Chose My Dad Over The Doctor I Loved Chapter 05

Blakely froze on the spot, her face a mix of embarrassment and fury.

She fixed her gaze on my wrist, where Waylon was still holding it, and demanded through gritted teeth. “Waylon, why on earth are you protecting her? Everyone knows Elowen is the one closest to you. You grew up together, she’s the one for you!”

The words acted like a thorn, piercing precisely into the softest part of my heart.

Yes, childhood sweethearts, a fated match.

I was just someone who had forced her way into his life out of nowhere, an annoying piece of extra.

I twisted my wrist hard, trying to break free, my tone intentionally detached. “Dr. Marsh, let go, please. I don’t want people getting the wrong idea.”

Instead of letting go, Waylon tightened his grip. His heavy gaze swept over to Blakely, his tone dropping several degrees colder. “Elowen and I are just old neighbors, nothing more. Everything you’ve heard is nothing but gossip.”

I snapped my head up to look at him, my eyes wide with shock.

The overwhelming comments about childhood sweethearts and deep, protective devotion suddenly felt like a joke in light of his words.

Blakely froze too, failing to process it for a long moment before murmuring. “But… everyone says so. You obviously take care of her all the time…”

“Taking care of her is a responsibility, not affection,” Waylon cut her off, his voice clear and unwavering. “Elowen has a weak constitution, and her parents asked me to look out for her. That’s all it is.”

I stared blankly at him, my heart pounding in complete chaos.

So the reminders, the concern, and the warm, grounded gentleness he showed Elowen during the day were nothing more than responsibility and courtesy.

But the comments couldn’t be lying. Those certain plot directions, word for word, predicted that they would end up together.

I felt completely lost, unable to tell what was real and what wasn’t.

Waylon seemed to see right through my thoughts. Releasing my wrist, he slid his hand down to gently cup my palm, his cool fingertips soothing my tense nerves.

“Alessia, all the gentleness I’ve shown you over the past year has never been out of respect for Dr. Stanfield.”

His voice was quiet, but it carried an incredible weight, hitting me right in the chest.

My eyes stung instantly, and the grievance that had been building up all day rushed to the surface. “Then why did you never reach out to me first? Why were you always so distant? Why did you tell me you needed privacy every time I asked?”

The questions I had bottled up for so long finally spilled out, carrying a shaky sob.

Waylon looked down at my reddened eyes, his expression full of helplessness and regret.

“I was just an intern,” he said. “New to the hospital, no real standing—everyone was watching my every move. And you’re Dr. Stanfield’s daughter. I worried about what people would say. I worried about damaging your name. And most of all, I worried about getting in your way.”

I was entirely stunned.

It turned out that the superficiality, distance, and impatience I thought I felt were actually his careful restraint.

It wasn’t that he didn’t like me; he just didn’t dare to.

“Then why did you frown in the office today…” I asked softly, holding onto my last bit of stubbornness.

“I wasn’t impatient,” Waylon countered immediately, his eyes dead serious. “I was nervous. I thought you were about to confess your feelings, and I was nervous about how to respond to you, about how to give you a proper answer.”

The night wind blew gently, scattering most of the haze in my heart.

To the side, Blakely’s face darkened completely. She squeezed the coffee cup in her hand until her knuckles turned white.

Unwilling to accept defeat like this, she took a step forward, deliberately raising her voice. “Waylon! Stop lying to yourself! Alessia is just a spoiled princess. She only knows how to cling to you and cause trouble! Elowen is the only one who truly understands you!”

“Who I like isn’t for you to decide.” Waylon turned his head, his eyes completely cold. “Blakely, have some boundaries.”

This was the first time Waylon had ever spoken so harshly to someone in public.

Intimidated by his freezing glare, Blakely took several steps back. Her eyes filled with tears, a mix of anger and hurt, before she turned around, covered her mouth, and ran away.

The comments began to flash frantically again, filled with panic.

[Oh no! Blakely is completely furious, she’s going to start causing trouble!]

[Before, she was just playing petty games, but now she completely hates the extra!]

[The plot is totally shattered, every single character setting has gone off the rails!]

Watching Blakely’s retreating figure, my chest tightened slightly.

I knew this matter wouldn’t end so easily.

Waylon withdrew his gaze and looked back down at me, the coldness melting away into pure sincerity.

“Now, can you tell me what you didn’t finish saying earlier today?”
