I Saw Her Confession And Went Back In Time Chapter 05

My limbs felt heavy as a female officer escorted me back into the secure hallway for a supervised urine

sample.

While I was waiting for the lab technicians to process the vial, Chloe slipped past the barrier and approached

me, leaning in close so only I could hear.

“You know, Valerie, while you were in your first screening, I actually took a little nap and had the craziest

dream,” she whispered maliciously.

“In that dream, you drank my pudding, failed your medical, and I got your job. Even Bennett ended up leaving

you to be with me.”

I looked up at her, letting out a sharp, mocking laugh.

“You’re basing your entire reality on a dream? You really are pathetic, Chloe.”

Chloe casually inspected her manicure, blowing a stray speck of dust off her nails with a smug smirk.

“Oh, come on. You had the same dream, didn’t you? That’s why you wouldn’t touch my dessert yesterday,” she

sneered.

“Too bad it doesn’t matter. A loser is a loser. Even with a second chance, you’re still walking right into the

slaughterhouse.”

I matched her stare with a cold smile of my own. “Are you really that confident my lab results are going to

come back dirty?”

She giggled, covering her mouth like a schoolgirl. “Why wouldn’t I be? You downed half that water bottle in

front of fifty witnesses.”

“Face it, Valerie. In this life, your future belongs to me.”

The sheer arrogance dripping from her words made my blood boil, and my hand twitched as I instinctively

raised it to strike her.

Before I could swing, Bennett’s hand clamped firmly around my wrist, pulling me back.

“Don’t do it, Valerie,” he urged quietly. “If you hit her here, she’ll press charges, and you’ll ruin your career anyway. Don’t take the bait.”

My mind cleared instantly, and I dropped my hand as Chloe watched us with a look of mock disappointment.

Just then, the lab doors swung open, and Jenkins walked out holding a document.

Before the director could even open his mouth, Chloe scrambled forward. “Director Jenkins! Her panel came back positive, right? Disqualify her!”

Jenkins shot her a look of profound disgust, his brows knitting together in anger.

“Watch your tone, Ms. Lane. Our testing process is fully regulated and transparent,” he announced coldly

To ensure absolute neutrality given your accusation, we had the city’s Chief Medical Officer verify the

sample personally. Valerie Sterling’s secondary panel is completely clean. Every single marker is within

standard, healthy parameters, with zero traces of any restricted substances.”

The absolute certainty in Jenkins’ voice sent a shockwave through Chloe, her triumphant smile fracturing

into a mask of pure horror.

“That’s impossible!” she shrieked. “She drank the-you’re protecting her! You’re helping her cheat!”

The crowd in the lobby, watching Chloe’s unraveling behavior, quickly put two and two together.

“Let me guess-the whistleblower missed the cutoff by half a point and tried to sabotage her own best

friend.”

“Spiked her drink ahead of time, expected her to fail, and didn’t realize she was being played the entire time.”

“Talk about a spectacular backfire. Falsifying evidence and lying to a state board? She’s never getting a

government job as long as she lives.”

They were exactly right. This was the trap Bennett and I had set together.

In my previous life, after I was disqualified, I had begged the oversight board for a retest, but they had

stone-walled me.

It wasn’t until I pushed them to the brink that an official finally admitted the truth to me.

“Ms. Sterling, we received an authenticated video report the night before your exam proving you were taking masking agents,” they had told me. “Combined with your failed lab work, the evidence was ironclad. You

never had the right to a appeal.”

Chloe’s anonymous tip and my own blind rage back then had ruined my relationship with Bennett, because I

had taken all my anger out on him.

Seeing her online post ten years later was the only reason I realized I had blamed the wrong person.
