I Saw Her Confession And Went Back In Time Chapter 06

The guilt of destroying my relationship with Bennett in that past life had haunted me even more than Chloe’s theft of my career.

So the moment I woke up back in time, I knew exactly what Chloe’s next move would be.

I knew that if the drug in the pudding failed, she would have a backup plan ready.

The night before, I had warned Bennett to watch her closely and report any food or drinks she bought or handled near us.

As soon as I entered the screening area, Bennett had texted me saying Chloe had gone out and bought a water bottle, handing it to him with strict instructions to give it to me the moment I finished.

Bennett had swapped the spiked bottle out for a fresh one immediately. After that, all we had to do was wait for Chloe to panic and reveal her next card.

With the tension leaving my body, my knees finally gave out, and I sank into a nearby chair.

Bennett rushed to my side, wrapping his arms around me anxiously. “Valerie, are you okay?”

I took a shaky breath and nodded. “I’m okay. Thank you, Bennett. We couldn’t have pulled this off without

you.”

Chloe rushed toward us, her composure finally cracking. “Why? You drank the water! I watched you swallow it! Why is your test clean?”

I pushed her away. “Did it ever occur to you that I wasn’t drinking the bottle you bought?”

Chloe sank to the floor, a hysterical mix of laughter and tears escaping her as reality finally set in.

“No, this isn’t right… this wasn’t how it was supposed to happen,” she muttered.

After a few minutes, she dragged herself up, trying to regain her composure. “Whatever, Valerie. Enjoy your little victory. We’ll see who wins in the end.”

She turned to walk toward the exit.

“You think you can just walk away?”

I stepped into her path, blocking her exit completely.

“You fabricated evidence, lied to a state agency, and tried to ruin my career. You don’t get to just walk away

from that.”

Chloe took a step back, her voice shaking. “What are you going to do to me?”

I smiled coldly at her. “I’m calling the police. You fabricated evidence, filed a false report, and tried to interfere with a public hiring process.”

“You can explain the rest to the police.”

Chloe’s eyes welled with tears, and she turned to the surrounding crowd with a look of practiced

vulnerability.

“If reporting potential corruption makes me a criminal, then lock me up,” she sobbed, trying to paint herself

as a martyr.

Her performance worked on a few older bystanders, who began whispering and chiding me.

“She did report it through the proper channel, didn’t she?”

“You passed. Maybe just let the board handle it.”

“Calling the police feels a little extreme.”

Chloe clasped her hands together, tears sliding down her face. “I’m so sorry, Valerie. I shouldn’t have doubted you. Please, just let it go.”

Disgusted by her performance, I didn’t say a word and simply dialed 911 on my phone.

Seeing that the crowd’s sympathy wasn’t stopping me, people began muttering about how heartless I was.

I turned to the loudest woman in the group. “I’m calling the police to answer one simple question-if I didn’t take those pills, where did she get that video of me taking them?”
