I Saw Comments Saying I Would Die Alone After the Fourth Divorce Chapter 13

Dad found out anyway. He showed up at the house and tore into Julian before anyone could get a

word in.

To Dad, Julian had failed me. Then he pulled me into his arms, tucked my head against his chest,

and cried – blaming himself over and over for not seeing the signs sooner.

It went on until I finally said, “Dad, can we go to the clinic now? Because if we keep stalling, neither

of us is going to make it.”

That shut him up fast. He wiped his face and practically dragged Julian to the car.

After a few rounds of treatment, we both stabilized. The doctors said as long as we kept up with our follow-up appointments, we’d live completely normal lives.

During my recovery, something changed.

Julian became a different man. The guy who used to practically sleep at the office suddenly refused

to leave the house.

Worse – he turned clingy. The man who used to communicate in two-word sentences suddenly couldn’t stop talking. He told me he loved me over breakfast, during movies, before bed, and God help me – in the middle of sex.

After a while I couldn’t take it anymore. “Don’t you have a company to run? Go make me some

money.”

Julian’s solution was to drop another million into my account every time I brought it up. “I have

more than I’ll ever spend,” he said. “Just take it.”

I watched my bank balance grow another row of zeros and decided to stop asking.

One morning I tried to sneak out to check on the shop. Julian caught me at the door. I frowned. “The

shop needs me.”

The shop had expanded – I’d hired more chefs and the day-to-day mostly ran without me – but quality control was still on me. Reputations were easy to lose.

Julian said one thing, and I sat back down.

“You’ve been asking me for months why I kept Audrey around.”
