I Saw Comments Saying I Would Die Alone After the Fourth Divorce Chapter 08

The divorce talk faded like it had never happened.

Julian threw himself back into work – gone before sunrise, home after dark. I went back to what I

did best – shopping, spa days, and treating his money like my full-time job.

The only thing that changed was that Audrey never showed up at the house again.

I coasted like that for a while – reckless and blissfully unbothered — until one afternoon, mid-shopping spree, a thought stopped me cold.

My dad was brilliant, respected, decorated – and had never built any real wealth. Every dollar he’d ever earned had gone toward scholarships for students who couldn’t afford tuition. Our family had never had real savings.

Every cent I burned through belonged to Julian. He’d turned down the divorce this time, sure, but who knew what he’d decide tomorrow? If he ever changed his mind – really changed it – I’d have no money, no safety net, no future. It would be just me, alone, dying in some rental apartment exactly the way those comments said I would.

The thought blared through me like a fire alarm. I called Stella, and we hatched a plan.

Step one was simple — use Julian’s money to lease a storefront and open my own dessert shop.

I wasn’t completely hopeless, after all. I’d trained as a pastry chef internationally certified,

master level, credential and all. My skills were real.

That was how I’d landed Julian in the first place. The man had a serious sweet tooth, and someone

once told me the fastest way to a man’s heart was through his stomach. So I baked my way into his

life – tart by tart, cake by cake – until he stopped running.

Of course, once the wedding was over, the real me resurfaced. I was lazy and allergic to effort. I hadn’t touched an oven since the wedding.

When I told Julian the plan, his pen stopped moving. He looked up from his paperwork – slowly, like he wasn’t sure he’d heard right.

“Am I not making enough for you? Or did you finally run out of ways to spend it?”

I looked everywhere except at him. “That’s different. I want something that’s mine.”

A line appeared between Julian’s brows. He didn’t answer right away.

“Pastry work is brutal. Early mornings, long hours. You won’t be able to sleep until noon anymore.”

I lifted my chin. “That’s why I’ve got it all figured out. Reservation-only, high-end clientele. Think

private orders from society women – exclusive, limited edition, premium prices.”

“Those women will fight over anything labeled “limited edition.” And the best part? I set my own hours. I’m a certified master pastry chef – I think I can handle a few custom orders without dragging myself out of bed at dawn.”

I expected praise, maybe even a smile. Instead, Julian’s expression darkened.

He stood up. “I’m going back to the office.” He said it just like that – flat, final, already heading for

the door.

I scrambled after him

stopped without warning.

“Wait, what does that mean?” – and ran face-first into his back when he

My nose throbbed. I blinked back tears.

I was gearing up to yell at him when his voice dropped from above me, low and quiet.

“I’ll have Simon help you with the setup.”

Then he walked out without looking back, the air around him practically crackling with something I

couldn’t name.

[The villainess is digging her own grave again lol. Did she seriously not notice the ML clearly DOESN’T want to fund this??]

[With that brain?? She’ll be bankrupt in a month and embarrass the ML in front of everyone!]

[It is what it is she’s still got her daddy’s name backing her. The ML is too loyal to his mentor to say no, and he’s terrible at expressing himself. Sigh.]

[Am I crazy, or does it seem like the ML isn’t mad about the money? Like he’s scared that if she starts earning her own, she’ll stop needing his?]

[Lmao that comment is delusional. You’re seriously shipping the ML with the VILLAINESS? The canon couple is the ML and FL – stop making up pairings!]

I ignored the brain-dead comments and called Stella with the good news.

Then I saved Simon Hayes’s number and dove straight into logistics.
