The operating room was in chaos.

Equipment lay overturned, and a trail of blood stretched all the way into the hallway.

The doctors Alistair had brought froze when they saw it.

A few of them sucked in sharp breaths.

He grabbed one by the collar, his voice breaking into a shout.

“I told you to leave the lead surgeon behind!”

“What the hell happened here? Where is my daughter?!”

The doctor’s lips trembled.

“Ms. Frost said her kid was in critical condition… she ordered all available staff to assist.”

“She said she’d take full responsibility, and if anything delayed her son’s treatment, we’d all be

held accountable.”

A vein pulsed violently at Alistair’s temple.

“So you just left my daughter on that table to die?”

His eyes were bloodshot.

“Go find her!”

The image hit him all at once-Maren on her knees in that video, begging, breaking.

He had thought it was jealousy. A performance.

His legs nearly gave out.

“I was wrong… please, just let Bria be okay.”

“I’ll make it right. I’ll fix everything.”

He repeated it under his breath like a prayer as he rushed toward the security room.

The footage played on the monitor.

Maren stood alone in the hallway, gripping a scalpel, forcing the media back step by step.

There was no hysteria in her movements.

Only desperation.

Alistair’s chest tightened until he could barely breathe.

But something didn’t add up.

Not a single outlet had released this footage.

None of it existed online.

By the time he left the hospital, every piece of surveillance showing Maren and Bria had been

wiped.

And no hospital in the area had any record of Bria’s surgery.

For the first time, Alistair had no idea what to do.

He pulled out his phone and tried to call Maren.

He couldn’t find her number.

Not anywhere.

Until he checked the blocked list.

There it was.

And beneath it-dozens upon dozens of intercepted calls.

It hit him all at once.

Before they remarried, he had blocked her.

So she wouldn’t interrupt his time with Coraline and Dexter.

And he had never undone it.

A cold, suffocating panic closed in on him.

His assistant spoke carefully.

“Mr. Vance… maybe you should go home first.”

“Mrs. Vance might have already taken Bria back after the surgery.”

It was a fragile possibility.

But it was something.

Alistair clung to it instantly.

“Yes. Home. Now.”

He hadn’t been back in over a month.

The moment he stepped inside, he stopped short.

For a second, he thought he had walked into the wrong house.

The family photo in the entryway was gone. In its place was a picture of him, Coraline, and Dexter.

The warm-toned walls Maren loved had been repainted pink.

The curtains she had sewn herself were nowhere to be seen.

Bria’s dolls were gone.

Replaced with toy cars and robot figures.

Dexter’s things.

A faint noise came from the storage room.

Alistair didn’t even take off his shoes.

He strode toward it.

“Maren! Where’s Bria?”

I looked up at him, my expression steady, and held something out.

“There is no Bria anymore.”
