I Raised His 99 Children to Save My Son Chapter 05

Kian’s heart seized. He grabbed his assistant by the collar, eyes blazing red. “What happened to her?! What happened to Helena?!”

The assistant shook uncontrollably. “Mrs. Steele… on the way to Westshire Police Station, she… she jumped from the car. The guards didn’t see it coming.”

“Jumped from the car?”

Kian stumbled back a step. Disbelief flooded his face.

He snapped back, grabbing the assistant again. “Is she hurt?! Where is she now?!”

“That stretch of road runs right along Harbor Wharf. The car was moving fast. After she jumped,

she… she went straight into the water.”

“Then what are you standing here for?! Mobilize everyone, every resource we have to search the

water! I want her found-dead or alive!”

Kian’s roar echoed off the walls. The assistant hesitated, then added quietly, “Sir. Before she

jumped, Mrs. Steele said something to the men escorting her. She said even in death, she wants nothing to do with you. Not in this life. Not in any life to come.”

Kian’s chest caved in. Darkness swallowed him whole.

He’d never imagined Helena could hate him this much. That she’d rather die than share another

moment of life with him.

His fists clenched so tight his knuckles whitened. His voice dropped, low and unhinged. “She’s

mine, whether she’s alive or dead. I don’t care if she’s fled to the ends of the earth. Dig her up if you

have to. Bring her back to me.”

He spun and bolted for the door.

The moment he stepped into the hallway, Camille collapsed right in front of him with her hands on

her stomach.

Kian froze. A flicker of hesitation crossed his face. Then instinct took over. He caught her.

He rushed her to the emergency room, deposited her with the doctors, and turned to leave without a second glance.

But a weak hand shot out and clamped onto his sleeve. Camille’s eyes cracked open.

“Kian… I’m so scared. My stomach hurts so much. Please stay with me. Don’t leave.”

“Helena lost her own child. That’s why she’s doing this, isn’t it? She wants revenge. She wants to

take everything from us.”

“I’m terrified. If I’d drunk that soup this afternoon, my baby would be dead. You have to protect us,

Kian. Please.”

Once,

those words would’ve softened him. He would’ve held her close and promised her the world.

Now, he just felt disgusted.

“Helena is the kindest woman I’ve ever known. She wouldn’t hurt a fly. You really think she’d poison innocent children?”

The words left his mouth before he could stop them. Kian froze, stunned by his own voice.

Seven years of memories crashed over him like a tidal wave. Each one a slap across his face.

His first affair. Helena was pregn@nt.

She’d stood before him, belly swollen, eyes red and wet. She asked with trembling voice.

“Why would you betray me? Betray our family when I need you most.”

He’d felt nothing but annoyance. He’d answered indifferently “loneliness”, and walked out. Seven months of cheating while she carried his child.

Seven months. Woman after woman.

He’d paraded them in front of her. Watched her pretend to be strong while her eyes shattered. He’d felt no guilt. If anything, he blamed her. She wasn’t enough to hold his attention.

And still. She never complained. Never once lashed out. Never tried to hurt a soul.
