I Only Wanted Luxury Shopping, and Accidentally Saved the Whole Family Chapter 11

I opened the first page of the file. The paper felt premium, the print crisp, and all official seals were stamped to perfection. It certainly looked legitimate.

Veronica stared at me nervously. “Willow, put the documents down,” she urged, still trying to regain control. “You don’t understand these.”

Ignoring her, I flipped directly to page fifteen—the gold mine’s reserve distribution map and satellite images of the geological survey.

I tapped my French-tipped finger lightly on the bottom-right corner of the satellite photo.

“Mr. Locke,” I raised my eyes to look at him. “This report was issued last month, right?”

Asher glared at me coldly. “So what if it was?”

“Interesting.” I turned the document around, displaying it to Veronica and Sloane.

“Veronica, Sloane. You two have run countless due diligence reports. Take a look at these latitude and longitude coordinates. Then look at the edges of the terrain on this satellite image.”

I pointed at a microscopic, jagged outline on the image. “This is a classic pixel artifact left behind from a sloppy Photoshop feathering job. And…”

I dropped the document onto the coffee table with a light thud.

“The Neptune-2 mining area corresponding to these coordinates suffered a once-in-a-century mudslide last month. The landscape changed completely.”

“You photoshopped this image using old satellite data from three years ago, didn’t you? What, are scammers getting lazy these days?”
