I Made a Bracelet for the Man Who Didn’t Love Me, and He Wore It for Two Years Chapter 14

It was strange.

I’d loved him for so long.

Yet now, seeing his name again, I felt nothing stir inside me.

He was Cole’s friend.

We were bound to run into each other again.

So I accepted.

The “typing…” indicator appeared at the top of the screen.

It stayed there for nearly five minutes.

Then a message came through.

He asked,

[How well do you even know him? And you’re already dating him?]

I stared at it.

[He’s a good man. I know that.]

He didn’t reply.

Two days later, Cole’s friends came down to D.C.

Along with the people from the group chat, a few other familiar faces came too.

We all had dinner together.

Sophie was there too.

She told me, “I think Grant and Vivian are really over this time. She’s dating someone new.”

“At first she only did it to make Grant jealous. But when he found out, he actually sent the two of them matching watches.”

I couldn’t understand it.

He’d loved her for years.

But none of that had anything to do with me anymore.

After dinner, everyone went to a private karaoke lounge.

They started playing Truth or Dare.

Eventually, it was Grant’s turn.

He chose truth.

For the last half hour, everyone had been asking increasingly outrageous questions. But once it was Grant’s turn, they suddenly toned it down and settled on something tame.

“How many women have you slept with?”

Everyone knew

he’d stayed single for years because of Vivian.

Everyone thought the answer was obvious. One.

But my face went white.

I pressed my lips together.

Beside me, Sophie’s voice changed immediately. “Why are you asking him that?”

“Ask something else.”

I was just about to relax

when Grant picked up his drink and drained it.

His voice was cool, unhurried.

“One.”

He was lying.

Then he picked up his coat and walked out, ignoring everyone else.

They played a few more rounds after Grant was gone.

The room started to feel stuffy, so I got up to use the restroom.

But the moment I stepped into the hallway, I spotted Grant by the propped-open back door.

He leaned against the wall beside it, a cigarette between his fingers.

Smoke drifted out into the night behind him.

He lifted his head and looked at me.

Then, out of nowhere, he said,

“I wasn’t lying.”

“One. You were the only one. From start to finish.”

I went still. Then I understood.

Before I could say anything, he walked away.

Dim light from the lounge shifted across the hallway.

I watched him walk away.

It took a long time before I looked away.
