I Made a Bracelet for the Man Who Didn’t Love Me, and He Wore It for Two Years Chapter 01

After one reckless night together, I confessed my feelings to the man I’d secretly loved for years.

He raised an eyebrow.

“What made you think one night together would make me like you?”

Mortifying.

I threw out my SIM card, changed my number, and moved to another city.

Then, two years later.

My roommate came down with a high fever.

Her wealthy boyfriend drove down from New York in the middle of the night.

In the covered walkway outside the hospital.

He lowered his gaze and lit a cigarette, his voice calm, as if we’d never met. “Thanks for taking care of her. Do you have Venmo? I’ll reimburse you for the medical bill.”

My gaze fell to his long fingers, the knuckles sharply defined.

A bracelet circled his wrist.

Red.

It didn’t suit him at all.

What he didn’t know was that I’d braided it myself. Vivian Hart was terrible at anything crafty, so she’d paid me thirty dollars to make it for her.

She’d told me,

“My boyfriend has so much money that anything I buy, he can buy better. Something handmade would actually feel special.”

I’d never imagined her boyfriend would turn out to be Grant Whitmore.

Grant Whitmore, a scion of the wealthy Whitmore family, the man I’d spent one reckless night with two years ago, and the man who’d refused to be with me afterward.

Even now, the memory was humiliating.

The last thing he’d said to me was,

“I’m sorry. There’s someone I love, and I’m still waiting for her. Besides, if I’d ever been interested in you, I wouldn’t have waited until now.”

Only then had I understood why so many women had chased him without ever turning his head.

So I’d said,

“I understand. I’ll go.”

Then I’d vanished from his life completely.

I drew a slow breath, pulling myself out of the memory.

“No need.”

I pulled up my Venmo QR code instead. “It’s forty dollars total.”

Grant looked up and held my gaze for a long moment.

Only then did he scan the code.

The payment came through just as Vivian woke up in the room.

She called to him.

“Grant? Could you get me some water?”

Grant gave a quiet hum.

Then he turned and went inside.

A moment later, I heard Vivian ask,

“You met my roommate, right? Isn’t she pretty? She’s such a sweetheart.”

Grant’s voice stayed flat. “Barely noticed.”
