I Got A Thanks You Card While She Got His Pink Diamond Chapter 05

I Got A Thanks You Card While She Got His Pink Diamond Chapter 05

The moment the venue manager said those words, the ring box slipped from Ethan’s hand and hit

the floor.

The pear-cut diamond ring rolled out and struck the side of his dress shoe.

The smile on Noah’s face froze.

“What did you just say?”

Frightened by Ethan’s expression, the manager hurriedly handed him a tablet.

“Ms. Monroe called personally at four this morning and canceled everything.”

“The reception catering, the décor, the photography and videography, the band, and the flowers

have all been called off.”

“She also said that if Mr. Caldwell objected, we should send her a separate invoice for the

cancellation fees.”

Ethan stared at the screen.

My name was clearly listed under the person who had authorized the cancellation.

Leah Monroe.

The time was 4:17 a.m.

As though he had only just understood what had happened, he immediately pulled out his phone

and called me.

An automated voice played over and over.

[The number you have dialed is currently unavailable.]

Ethan’s expression turned grim.

“Where did she go?”

No one answered.

Guests were already beginning to arrive at the hotel.

Ethan’s mother entered wearing a deep burgundy mother-of-the-groom gown. The moment she

saw the half-dismantled welcome display, her expression changed.

“Ethan, what is going on?”

Before he could answer, Sienna rushed out of the getting-ready room.

There was still gauze taped to her neck, and her eyes were red.

“Ethan, is Leah still angry with me?”

The moment she spoke, Ethan’s mother turned toward her.

Then she noticed Sienna’s bridesmaid dress, and her expression became even harsher.

“This is my son’s wedding. Why is she dressed like the bride?”

Sienna stiffened.

Noah instinctively moved as if to shield her.

Ethan didn’t move at all.

He simply stared at the photograph that had been removed from the welcome display.

I stood at the very edge of the picture.

Sienna had her arm linked through Ethan’s and was smiling like the real bride.

Only then did Ethan realize how glaringly inappropriate the photograph was.

The day before, he had still thought I was overreacting.

The venue manager spoke cautiously.

“Mr. Caldwell, there’s one more thing Ms. Monroe left for you.”

He handed Ethan a black gift box.

It was almost weightless.

Ethan opened it.

Inside was the card, torn into pieces and taped back together.

[Thanks for playing.]

Beneath it lay a printed letter.

I had written it to him.

My handwriting was steady, with no sign that the letter had been written in a fit of anger.

[Ethan Caldwell, it’s been nine years.]

[I always believed that if I were a little more understanding, a little more generous, and a little more willing to let things go, you would eventually see me.]

[But I finally understand that when someone never chooses you, no amount of effort will make you anything more than the consolation prize.]

[I’m walking away from this wedding.]

[I hope you and the person you truly want to protect find your happy ending.]

Ethan gripped the page tightly.

Noah leaned over and read it.

His expression changed after only one glance.

When he reached the final line, it was as if all the strength left his body.

[Noah Sullivan, you can keep the umbrella you should have given me when we were eighteen.]

[I’m done waiting for the rain to stop.]

The black umbrella fell from Noah’s hand and hit the floor.

My name gleamed on the handle beneath the lights.

But no one came to take it.

Ethan’s mother asked in a trembling voice, “Where is Leah?”

Ethan swallowed.

Only then did he realize he had no answer.

Sienna began crying softly.

“This is all my fault. If I hadn’t lost the earrings, Leah wouldn’t have…”

Ethan’s head snapped up.

“The earrings.”

Sienna froze.

Ethan looked directly at her and spoke one word at a time.

“Find Leah’s mother’s earrings.”
