Ethan still hadn’t come home by eleven that night.

I sat in the living room of our new home and went through the wedding plans from beginning to end.

My name appeared only twice.

This didn’t feel like a wedding for Ethan and me at all.

At one in the morning, I heard the lock turn.

Ethan walked in with the sharp smell of antiseptic clinging to him. When he saw me still sitting there, he frowned.

“You’re still awake?”

“Where are the earrings?”

He stopped loosening his tie.

“Sienna still needs them for the video shoot tomorrow morning. She’s keeping them for now.”

“Sienna is only wearing the earrings for a little while, and you can’t handle that?”

“Leah, no one should be this greedy.”

I stared at him.

So in his eyes, wanting my mother’s keepsake back made me greedy.

Just then, Noah called. His voice was urgent.

“Ethan, something happened.”

“Sienna says the earrings are gone.”

My entire body went rigid.

Half an hour later, we arrived at the bridal suite in the hotel.

Sienna sat in front of the vanity with Ethan’s jacket around her shoulders, her eyes red from crying.

The makeup station was a mess.

The only thing missing was the pair of pearl earrings my mother had left me.

I turned to the makeup artist.

“What about the security cameras?”

She lowered her head.

“They stopped working this afternoon.”

I looked at Sienna.

“Leah, I swear I didn’t take them.”

“Then we call the police.”

The two of them stood on either side of her, shielding her between them.

Ethan turned to me, his gaze like ice.

“Apologize to her.”

He spoke each word slowly and clearly.

“She’s already falling apart. How far are you planning to push her?”

I stared at him.

“Ethan, she lost the earrings my mother left me.”

“She said it wasn’t intentional.”

“And you believe her just because she says that?”

“Do you have proof that she did it on purpose?”

I had no answer.

Noah lowered his voice and tried to persuade me.

“Leah, just apologize and let it go.”

“You’ve already won. Why keep humiliating her?”

I looked at all of them and suddenly felt exhausted.

Sienna had so obviously gotten everything she wanted, yet somehow everyone still treated her like the victim.

I nodded. I didn’t want to fight anymore.

“Fine.”

The bridal suite fell silent.

Ethan frowned, as though he hadn’t expected me to agree so quickly.

I turned toward Sienna.

I pulled off my engagement ring and gently placed it on the vanity.

“The wedding can still go ahead tomorrow.”

“Don’t let me ruin the mood for you.”

I turned toward the door.

Ethan seemed about to say something, but Sienna suddenly clutched her neck, her voice trembling.

“Ethan, it hurts so much…”

He gave a small laugh.

“Mine should work too.”

“She’s remembered that night in the rain all these years.”

“She was exhausted.”

“After making a scene all night, she had to pretend it was no big deal and move on.”

“Leah has always been softhearted.”

“You give her the ring, and I’ll give her the umbrella. The second she sees them, she’ll cave.”

When they arrived at the hotel, the venue manager was directing workers as they dismantled the welcome display.

The manager looked surprised to see him.
